I share Ed's concerns. I've seen the Lefler tables at various magic conferences, but always been leery about carrying it. I have no quarrel with its construction and durability. I'm sure it's great to work out of. But I primarily do birthday parties in people's houses. Many of these parties involve going up and down numerous steps. I did one party this winter and there were 18 (I counted them) snow-covered steps to the front door. YIKES! The thought of carrying a fully-loaded Lefler table, which is not lightweight because it's not flimsy, makes my back ache.
Then there are the internal staircases. I've been to many houses where the party is in the basement and you have to go down a very narrow staircase with a sharp bend or two. Again, I can't see trying to haul a Lefler case down (and then back up) such a staircase. I suspect that if you primarily do schools, daycare centers, stage shows, etc., the Lefler table is the way to go. But for those of us whose primary show is in people's houses, I'd be careful. |

Larry -
I've done hundreds of shows for in-home birthday parties using my large Lefler table (as well as hundreds of shows at other venues). Like I said earlier, I've had it for 17 years now. And I had another large box suitcase table before that. However, I'll admit that I'm a big & tall guy, so that might influence how I can manage moving the table about. - Donald

I'm 5'8" and not a brawny guy...I have no major difficulty carrying my Lefler table up and down steps or staircases or through houses. The top handle makes it simple. You must carry your showpieces in something, right? I make one trip in and set up in five minutes - tear down in five minutes and make one trip out. What could be simpler?

Buy a Toyota Matrix (it's technically called a Corolla Matrix)...I can fit an entire stage show in there. Large Lefler will fit in there standing up, so will the Ultimate Gig Table. NOT, however, the Viking "Pro-Table"!

I was looking at the Matrix this past year when searching for a new car. It looked like it had good space. Ultimately, we got a Rav 4. I love it! Easy in and out for all my cases and bags etc.
As for the Lefler table -- I've had a large one for the past 7 years and it comes to every single show I do. In homes, down steps, on stage. It's a bit bulky, but it moves around nicely. And as Skip mentioned, you can pick it up easily and carry it if needed. I always do that in people's homes.

I think that the weight might be a problem but then as stated before it will be so much easier to bring in my show, just one trip. I guess you have to work a little harder when there are stairs etc , but in my opinion I think its worth it.

After 5000 shows I have only had to replace my lefler tables once. I use 2 each show unless its my full stage illusion show I use one on stage but the other one is there with the magic in it for the show as well.
the point is GET ONE! whether it be the big one or the little one they are worth it for so many reasons! great magical type prop - its a suitcase - no its my magic table Velcro friendly- I have multiple velcro banners that cover the whole front wheels-- wheels! I changed the clasps to be locking ones and use a clip on one side and a combo lock on the other. don't have to worry about it falling open in transport and safe when I'm not near it before I set it up or after the show from prying eyes I did add two L brakets to the top shelf to help sturdy the table as I wrote I do a lot of shows and these tables go thru alot! my new lecture notes have a section called Trick out your table- specifically the lefler table. there are so many things you can do to make the table even better for your performances! enjoy and have fun

For those who think the large Lefler table is heavy, think again. It's made of strong 3/8 birch ply (I think it's birch but might be wrong) that is very well held together with proper hardware; no nails. It's weight will depend on what you load into it but by itself, it's very light in weight and extremely durable. And the covering is velcro friendly so you can put silks on it for your "sign", like Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, or what have you.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

And also does anyone know if a large lefler table can fit in a NISSAN MURANO?

My large Lefler table measurements are W-23.5 x D-13.5 x H-26 (including wheels) inches. Put together a cardboard box mock-up and carry it out to your Murano.

Skip Way,
that's how I start off before building my wooden boxes and tables. I make a cardboard box with the appropriate shelves then fill it with the props, even velcroing film containers etc to hold props. (I found out that most UK-made boxes just weren't big enough fro my kids show).I then try out a show using the box on a table-top before trying to move it upstairs, through doors, into the car etc. John Breeds book ("How to create Kid's Magic and triple your income" p.3-29) has an amusing story of Jimmy making a magic box that was too large to fit out of his house, so he sawed a bit off; it was too large to fit in his car, so he strapped it on to the roof rack; then the police stopped him as he was losing all of his props out of the box.

John Breeds has an amusing story of Jimmy making a magic box that was too large to fit out of his house... I hear that! I once deigned this beautiful circus wagon to carry a street show I did at a local mega-mall every weekend. I carefully checked the measurements of the box and handle and everything fit in the back of my van perfectly! This thing was beautiful - lights, sound system, show...all in one. Forgot two things...the wheels made it six inches taller that I'd planned on AND it was heavier than my mother-in-law after Thanksgiving dinner. It sits in my garage storing...um...stuff. I quickly adopted the cardboard model concept on all future projects.

Just thought I'd chime in - I ALWAYS use a large and a small Lefler case both fit into the back of my PT Cruiser and I always travel alone so lift them in and out of the back all by myself. I am 5'3" and if I can lift them I am sure anyone else can too. You won't be sorry!!
