I posted this in Secret Sessions. However thought it best that I asked the question here as this is the illusions forum...
Feel free to answer in Secret Sessions if you're worried about tipping the method. I have only read about this Jarret-style of base/pedestal apparatus used in illusions. Anyone knowledgable and/or experienced with this? Any info appreciated!

He thought a lot of magic could be better and put his secrets and philosophies in his own hand-printed text, and he changed magic forever. The secrets were astonishing, the stories were insightful, and the Jarrett Magic book became famous as one of the best reads in magic-alternately hilarious, biting and just plain honest. For many decades the book was a highly-sought rarity. The Complete Jarrett, compiled by Jim Steinmeyer is a completely new edition, reproducing every page of Jarrett's original work with over 250 photos and drawings, including many new diagrams for this edition. For the first time, Jim Steinmeyer has included newly discovered historical information on Jarrett, his Broadway shows, feature illusions and the secrets of his remarkable magic. It's a beautiful publication and an important, fascinating look at the art. The Complete Jarrett is a post-graduate course in magic, taught by magic's one-of-a-kind genius, Guy Jarrett. |

I have the Complete Jarrett book and i suggest you get it as soon as you can get your hands on the book. It's a must have!
This book will definitely inspire you to think of new and innovative ways and methods to create illusions. It's no longer the standard base or mirrors to achieve an illusion. It is the design of the prop and the positions that really inspired me. Mark Parker's illusion design book is a must have as well! It will inspire you, just like Jarrett. Haha, |

Reading about Guy Jarrett's methods with his pedestal raised the hair on my neck, and had me cringing and laughing all at the same time. You have to read it to believe it, but the thought of producing a chorus line of plump girls through a ballistic plunging (I'm trying not to tip it here), or disappearing via the pedestal while taking care "not to cause shock to the male anatomy," somehow makes Jarrett even more of a magic genius. I have Jim Steinmyer's 1981 book. I think the updated version is even better.
