Bill Abbott's "Smart Ass" is a fun prediction routine. He has a routine that uses the baby gag. Essentially, the audiences guesses the last name of the famous people that he reads aloud (off of playing cards). Cards are eliminated until one is left which matches the prediction (this is where the baby gag is used).

Instead of famous people, I'm thinking of using a "Toy Store" theme. My plan is to incorporate some jokes that would earn some laughter from kids and adults about the various toys that would be read aloud. Here is are some toy store items that I am considering, but I am not limiting my routine to these ideas:
Transportation- wagon, scooter, bike,
Board Games- monopoly, twister, checkers,
Sports- hockey, basketball, golf,
Beach Toys-boat, sand bucket, water wings,
Building Toys-playdough, lego, marble run.

Instead of using the "baby gag" before the reveal of the prediction, I'm planning to use the "barcode" and perhaps have the actual item hidden in a bag (ex: beach bucket in a bag).

Some joke ideas may include:
boat - something about a "sinking ship"
golf - acting out "fore"
monopoloy- something about budget cuts
transportation theme- when I was younger I had to walk to school up hill... both ways, but now you can use a....

Anyway, wondering if anyone might have some joke ideas or other suggestions for this routine. I really think it needs to have some funny bits as the list of words is shared.

Thanks,

john

Fair play for trying to do it a bit differently.

( I misread it first and thought there was a Toy Story theme which might be quite fun too although will probably get dated in a few years)

Even the old barcode gag might not work anymore. People can check them with their phones now. (Or does that make it work better?)

Are you going to show pictures of the toys and get the audience to shout them out?

The bicycle, invented, of course, by Sir Walter Raleigh

Playdough, The famous Greek Philosopher

To misquote Whit Haydn: A normal game of twister like you'd find in any bedroom.

Arabian golf or Persian golf?

I used to play lego when I was a kid. My brother would grab my nose like this and I'd go LEGOOO!.

I don't think I'll be using pictures. Instead, I'm going to use words and give hints about the various objects.

Thanks for your jokes and such. Much appreciated. The bar code might not work... we'll see.

Cheers,

John

Thanks, Doug.

The barcode gag will still work, I was really just making you aware to another aspect of it ie someone in the room will be able to actually scan it and announce the result before it is revealed.

I think your idea is great. I think it should be about presents. (Christmas presents or birthday presents) Maybe you could get some humor out of having some "duds". gifts that kids don't want like socks and underwear. You could have two different force objects, one for a boy and one for a girl. Let's say your force object for girls is a stuffed bear. You buy a bunch of nice but inexpensive stuffed bears and after the reveal you actually give it to the girl to take home.

I think you would get a standing ovation.

I sometimes ask "How many kids rode a bike here today?" Raise your hands.

"How many came on a PoGo Stick?"

"How many kids drove a car here today?" Many hands will raise.

"They're letting Kids drive now?"
