What are your thoughts on I.A. officers?

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley.

I see where this is probably gonna lead, another we hate the police thread.

Be that as it may, they are needed and they do a bang up job. Kudos.

Ummm. Well. Er.

I have always though it was not cops jobs to investigate cops. I know most of them are thought of by rank and file as rat squad, but not to me. The idea is to make cops accountable, and they hold a pretty tough line doing that.

I guess they are like lawyers. Till you need one nobody wants one arround. I mean don't forget that often part of the job of IA is to CLEAR cops of wrongdoing when someone gets after them. Not many consider this part of the job.

You may be right, but it wasn't intended that way.

Not blaming you for anything, I am just basing this on prior threads.

IA is a thankless job. I have dealt with them three times. Twice for something I was involved in, using my police unit for unofficial business, picking up my teenage daughter and three of her friends from school, and for any knowledge I had of two narcotics officers accused of abusing a person in an interrogation room. And once as the lead investigator charged with investigating a murder of a police officer by another police officer.

IA is tough because of blured lines.

I have to say that the idea of cops investigating cops is good in one way because they know what it is to do the job. BUT that may not be so good. But if you have no frame of reference, how can you investigate much of anything?

They had a saying that the way you got to be IA was they caught you doing something and held it over your head so you would do the job. Obviously not true, but it shows a general attitude.

A thankless job. That is true, yet an understatement.
