Thanks for the heads up Bob. Aren't you involved in this too in some capacity? What can be expected?

Amazing clips Bob.
The hypno spare change bit was very dramatic.

I don't see the point? Is it just me? You edit a film and pretend to be able to hypnotise someone to be a beggar with one word? I seriously don't get it.. Plus Brown has done all this stuff before. I like Keith's work I thinks he a great presenter but this to me is pointless..

I agree with mindpunisher here. Out of the three video clips the only thing that stands out for me is Car Drop.
Otherwise nothing new. |

One thing I came to appreciate after working with Keith, Andrew and Eamon (Keith's manager) is the constant struggle that goes on between the creators and the producers in putting together this kind of show. Especially since, at least in this case - the production crew was not privy to the methods used to create the effects - nor were any stooges used. Compromise is inevitable, but I think it will all have been worth it. Kudos to Keith - he's one of the best I've had the privilege to work with. Good thoughts, Bob |

The naysayers seem to forget that the purpose of such shows is NOT to appeal to folks "in the biz" like us. It is to entertain the general public and needs no "point" other than to capture the attention of the viewer and thereby increase sales of the sponsors' products and services -- nothing more and nothing less. As far as Keith he no doubt hopes that the resultant exposure will advance his career.
We should all hope the show is a success because if it further popularizes mentalism we all stand to benefit.

Dick summed it up pretty well. That's what it's all about - the public.

I don't think anyone is naysaying. I genuinely didn't get the point. Perhaps the public will perhaps they won't time will tell. I like Keith's work I just don't like the clip with the hypnosis or the influence it might have in general. It might be a huge success it looks very similaar to the earlier Derren stuff. Since Derren hasn't really took off in your part of the world Keith might with this similar formula.
>>I've not seen that plot of SPARE CHANGE before...thought it was very interesting...<<< I didn't see a plot I saw a member of the public approached and dropped quite heavily on the DIRTY ground then made to look like a beggar. Derren has done things very similar but not so brutal and disrespectful. I can see some young street hypnos attempting this after watching a few instructional dvds. I hope the show is a success for everybody involved. I have huge amount of respect and admiration for Bob and the other members of the team. Personally I don't expect to be "wowed" by any TV series since I am VERY jaded with mentalism and hypnosis. I do understand the principle of appealing to the public. I just didn't think this particular clip was a good idea. But that's just my view. |

But as far as I know, he has never played here in the USA. So this is fresh and new and not pointless! It might be to you but not to me or others that have never seen DB preform on TV before. I look forward to watching it. As far as hypnotizing someone that fast, isn't new or necessary fake as you think. It just shows that you do not understand hypnotism. That's no true Brown was on here on t.v. in the states last year. It tanked. I believe it was re-edited versions of his previous UK series.

If you think there is a point to apparantly approaching a stranger on the street, dropping him heavily onto a dirty hard pavement then walking away leaving him begging then I guess you just don't "get" my point. I understand only to well the point about pleasing the public and using a proven tested formula - it is done with many different types of TV shows over the world. They even made an American version of the "office". Whether it fresh to me personally or not is irrelevant. |

Ray<<< Ray as someone who has been a professional hypnotist for more than 20 years I have to tell you - you have just demonstrated your lack of understanding of hypnosis. To walk up to someone as seen on film and walk away leaving them begging is not possible without conditioning. The film was not only highly edited but most likely the subjects were pre selected well in advance and volunteered to be on the show. Otherwise what you just witnessed would probably be classed as assault. The worrying thing is you believe you know more about hypnosis than you actually do. And some watching knowing even less may even attempt it on the streets. |

I think that any TV show that shows our art or arts, unless exposing or criminally bad, is a good thing and gets the public talking about such things. We can exploit that (in a good way) to our advantage.
And yes these TV shows are generally made for the public in general not for us to analyse. (We do and that is OK here where it is the place to discuss the ins and outs and what we feel about it from a professional stand point) I wonder if it is coming to Discovery UK? Hope so.

All shows are edited: Take our X factor where it looks like 50,000 people show up and they go in front of the judges to sing. They edit out all the rounds of many other producers that they have to go through before they are even allowed to get to perform for the judges. Now that process may be of interest to some but for the general viewing audience it would bore them to death and don't really care what really goes on.
The same with a hypnotist TV show: The process may interest us, but the programme isn't made just for us, it's a general piece of entertainment. If we want to see the workings, then we have books, DVDs and for course in person training for that. As long as some hypnosis (whatever type) is taking place, no one is being conned. As long as it's not a paid actor working from a script, all is well. Yes we would like to see the complete workings of magic, hypnosis and mentalism, because that is our interest. The general public want entertainment. It's like when a TV magician does a magic trick and the camera cuts away to an audience shot just as the main move takes place. Yes we would like to see it but to a general audience, no move should be taking place anyway and so makes no difference to them.
