These people were doing this in response to this: http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/......509.html Apparently dancing doesn't promote a tranquil environment, at least not compared to loud obnoxious school trips to memorials.

They're very lucky...they got to be centers of attention for more than the duly allotted 15 minutes we're all promised.

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |

"To maintain “an atmosphere of calm, tranquility, and reverence” at the Jefferson Memorial, law enforcers body slam and choke celebrants"
At first I was shocked when I watched the video of the arrests, then I kinda understood after reading the description of why they were arrested but after having some time to think about it I'm back to thinking it's really stupid to be arresting people for something as innocent as dancing. Seems very much like a police state type affair and abuse of power. |

I couldn't finish reading the story. The scrolling advertisement was too annoying.

Near the middle of the video an officer in a black uniform threatens to arrest someone for taking video pictures without a permit. And at the end of the video the obnoxious one (the one who did most of the BS) tells people, including one who claoms to be from the press, that taking video pictures is not allowed at the Jefferson Memorial. He said, "Not in here."

Is this the putz that has his own TV show in Russia? This was just a stunt be these lefties. I noticed they didn't pull this BS off in front of Rolling Thunder across town. That would have been really funny.

The arrested woman in the cut-off jeans was Medea Benjamin of Code Pink.
For fans of Emma Goldman, Professional Anarchist: Quote: At the dances I was one of the most untiring and gayest. One evening a cousin of Sasha [Alexander Berkman], a young boy, took me aside. With a grave face, as if he were about to announce the death of a dear comrade, he whispered to me that it did not behoove an agitator to dance. Certainly not with such reckless abandon, anyway. It was undignified for one who was on the way to become a force in the anarchist movement. My frivolity would only hurt the Cause.

All you have to do is willfully resist, delay, or obstruct any public officer, peace officer, or an emergency medical technician, in the discharge or attempt to discharge any duty of their office or employment and you're off to jail. If a cop needs to clear a sidewalk, stop traffic, evacuate an building, tell someone to halt, lay down, or to put down an object (just to name a few) in order to do the job and they refuse to comply, then there is a violation in some states. If the job was to make sure they did not demonstrate by dancing, well, you figure it out.

The thrill is probably gone at this point--Medea Benjamin has been arrested lots and lots of times at various civil disobedience actions. But it certainly was their intention to call non-violent attention to a stupid law, an activity that has a long and venerable history in the US.
