I have always transported my rabbit in a pet carrier. Occasionally, she urinated in my prop (mirror box). Now I am planning shows further away. I am looking for advice on how to properly transport and store my rabbit. Suggestions would be most welcome.

If I have a show that is any distance or more than one show, I actually take the entire cage so the rabbit has her litter box, water bottle, etc. - Then when we get to the site I put her in my pet carrier and she is ready to go. I found that if I put the rabbit in a carrier without a litter box and it has to go, then sometimes the rabbit will get off using the litter box for a little bit and I don't want that as a litter trained rabbit keeps the cage nice and clean.
If I have a show that is real close and will not be lengthy I will simply use Barry Mitchell's Presto Pet Production which is both a carrier and production device and the rabbit is generally good and never has an accident.

Thank you for the response. I was unable to find a source to purchase the Presto Pet Production. Any ideas?

Check out The Great Northern Cage Co. I understand it's what breeders use to transport rabbits to show them.

One suggestion might be when using a pet carrier put a small litter box inside with the rabbit. our rabbit is litter box trained and when We travel even the smallest of distance we put a litter pan in the carrier.

Sorry, haven't looked at this post - The Presto Pet Production device is no longer made by Barry Mitchell - It is a great item though and it could be worth a shot to see if anybody has one they no longer want.

My bunny get transported in a wicker basket I bought from ikea store. It's the perfect size for a 3 to 4 pound bunny.
The wicker provides ventilation during the summer months and during the winter months a insulated material is draped losely around the outside to keep the bunny warm. A mesh wire platform is placed on the bottom to allow waste matter to fall below. Tricky Ricky |

Honestly I transfer mine in a 2 by 4 cardboard box with an old towel in the bottom. I also make sure they do not drink anything at least an hour before the show so I know she will not pee in the bucket, then put the water in her box right after shes done with the trick. I think the box gives her enough space and the towel provides easy cleaning once soiled. hope this helps.

Always travel with the metal cages with mesh bottoms, Ythis keeps then clean under the belly from urine stains and the you know what, I have a great small wiremesh cage for during shows, then the large show cage for resting in between shows or while traveling, I can always post pics if you would like. This always keeps them very clean, no towels, just good ole bedding under the cgae to soak up the urine and catch the other by producy...LOL.

I put mine in my prop when I go behind my backdrop to get it so I can bring it out. Idea #2. Try putting pet bedding in the Mirror Box so it will absorb the urine. Idea #3. Put a litter box in the carrier so she can litter earlier: http://www.amazon.com/Super-Pet-Rabbit-L......009YEB98 |

I use an open cage with hay on the bottom for lots of ventilation; and the rabbit loves to view the surroundings, actually climbing up the side of the cage to look around

Tricky,
The rabbit traveles in the open cage; When I arrive at the party, while I am still at my truck, I place the rabbit in the box and leave some food and water, I carry the trick to the venue; just before the trick, while I'm explaining that a real treat is coming, I open the box and hide the rabbit behind the gimmick; the kids don't have a clue. I should have been more clear in my first post; did I explain it correctly this time? |

Under that, I poured some litter pellets, made of cellulose, to soak up any accidents, although it never happened, considering that he was never in the Wringer for long. I used a Rabbit Wringer because I could have him on display before and during the show, and because I perform solo, it made working with the rabbit easy, since he wasn't in the prop for long. When he was on display, I used an elevated mesh bottom in the bottom of his carrier, and I removed the top of the carrier so that he was visible to the kids. |

I use pet carriers. I modified mine with a wire mesh bottoms. Best way I have found yet to transport my bunnies.

I also use a pet carrier which I put a small litter box inside which he's trained to use. And agree that loading of the rabbit should be done last minute, as I do it behind my backdrop prior to the trick.
