Potty,
how have you got on with sourcing the boxes and packing everything up? What's the cost in pounds sterling including shipping? Rob

I've ordered some custom-made boxes. They should be here within a few days. Starpower, yes, you're on my list. Ralphdean, you're not, but I will add you to the list of "inerested folks".
I was hoping to be able to ship the props by tomorrow, but evidently that ain't happening. And July is a mad month for me, performing-wise. Nevertheless, I will do all I can to get the project finished and ship out asap. I have an idea for a wonderful c****e bag, which I'm currently investigating. This will deliver a "complete routine", as well as making the effect truly awesome, but there are a couple of hurdles to jump.....and if I do have these bags made, it would definitely double the cost (maybe more). Of course, I'd be happy to supply the effect without this bag, but it really would be cool. Now I have to make some calls to find out if this will be possible. Potty |

Potty,
I also manufacture flat change bags (either clear net, flat, millers's or devil's silk). PM with the dimensions and I'll work out if we can make them in the UK. Rob

How do we go about paying you Doug?
|

Potty the Pirate Inner circle 4632 Posts |
As soon as I'm ready to ship the props, I will contact all those on my list via PM, asking for your email addresses. Then I'll email you the payment details (PayPal). (If you don't have a PayPal account, I'd recommend setting one up, mine has been a secure and safe way to pay for stuff on the internet very easily.) You'll have the choice to pay right away, and receive the props along with a condensed explanation of the routine - or to wait until I have the full script, routine and instructions before you send the funds.
The boxes were shipped to me today, so should be here early next week. I'll then put the basic package together, and obtain shipping costs. Doug. |

What alternatives are there to using a Pandora Bag to make this work?

There is no reason why you can't use a standard magician's change bag. And the Pandora Bag from Creative Magic is a little too small to work ideally with the effect. I imagine that in the first instance, I'll recommend a standard change bag...this would be a simple way to get used to using the prop.
I have all the puzzles, the boxes, and a few days without gigs (at last!!!) Hopefully some of you will be receiving this very soon. Doug |

OK, I've now notified all those who originally asked to join in with this. The puzzles and boxes are ready to ship, I have the basic instructions ready, and will probably have time later this week to write out the full routine, take photos of the neccessary preparations, etc. I have now had payment for half the jigsaws, which will be sent out on Wednesday.
Many thanks to all those who've bought into this. I hope we can share some presentation ideas here. Potty |

I have a question for those who have PayPalled me.....is the PayPal invoice sufficient, or do I need to provide you with a separate invoice? (OK, I'm trying to minimise the amount of work on this project....hey, I'm a busy guy!)
Of course, if the PayPal invoice isn't sufficient, I will gladly provide one. Potty. |

My jigsaws arrived this morning (and the instructions via e-mail). It's a quality product that I'm going to enjoy personalising with patter (and other comedy props) to fit my character.
I received two jigsaws, and two sets of ten spare pieces inside the box. Potty will later be sending through pdfs to convert the plain box into one that looks like a commercial jigsaw box. Really pleased. Now going to look at converting my Pandora bag to fit the pieces. Which adds to the creative fun. Well done Potty.

I got mine today too but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet as I have a busy weekend. I look forward to Monday when I can give it the time it deserves. Thanks Doug

Just a quick update: I've performed the puzzle trick many times now, and it certainly is very, very easy to perform. One tip I will pass on right now, is that before the final reveal, remove the band from the box, and keep it held shut with one hand. Grab the frame and jigsaw with the other hand, and when ready, allow the box to fall open as you remove the frame (back to audience), and slowly turn it around.
I also recommend cutting a hole in the side of the box, at the bottom, to allow the easy removal of any pieces which accidentally fall into the main box. You simply tilt the box, and let the pieces fall onto the floor. Ideally, do this as your kid helper waves a breakaway wand. simply pick up these pieces, and drop them back into the right part of the box. You don't need to put all the pieces back from the CB into the puzzle box. Allow the kid to break up the jigsaw, but watch to make sure he doesn't damage the jigsaw. If some pieces are still joined together when you put them into the CB, it won't matter. But I suggest you make sure the f***e piece is separated, in case you have any particularly sharp-eyed spectators. for this reason, it's also a good idea to ensure that you look for the f***e piece when you take it from the bag, and put it back into the puzzle box. Just turn it so the picture side is not seen. For repeat performances, you might want to purchase additional jigsaws, so that you don't need to make up the jigsaw between performances. You'll easily find them on the internet, and individually they are quite cheap. I also recommend buying a few extras, because the ungimmicked jigsaw will be broken up and re-made many times, and will eventually show signs of wear. Whereas your gimmick and f***e pieces will (hopefully) remain almost as new for a very long time. If you do buy additional sets, be sure to mark every piece of each set with a small coloured dot (a different colour for every jigsaw). This way, if for any reason, the pieces get mixed up, you will easily separate them out. I have lots of gags, and a good routine with this now, and will shortly email all those who own the effect with the full routine. Meanwhile, I hope you have been able to understand the "basic instructions", and are performing this. To give you a bit of a heads up: kids LOVE the picture, so you need to talk about the picture, maybe even tell a little story about it. There are quite a lot of funny bits of business and banter that you can have with the kids about jigsaw puzzles, toys in general, and I'll be including all that with the routine. I'm sorry, I still haven't got around to getting the PDF for the box cover, and I'm performing this with the plain box at the moment. I WILL get that done, shortly. OR...I might come up with another "take" which means you won't need the picture on the box. The best bit for me, is that every kid so far, has instinctively reached for the piece he chose, and placed it back into the jigsaw. One of my first questions is : "What's the most BORING thing about jigsaws?" And nearly every time, the kids say "putting it together". Then I ask: "And what's the BEST thing about jigsaws?" (Usually they are flummoxed)....I say "Of course, it's putting the very last piece into place!" I have to say, so far, I've fooled kids of all ages with this...I can hear them discussing how it could have worked....they get so far, but then remember that the missing piece fitted.... Anyone who's having problems making up the gimmick, or preparing the box, feel free to email or call, I will do my best to ensure that you understand exactly what needs to be done. It's all very simple, just requiring tape, card, and a craft knife. Doug |

I've been quietly working with the Puzzle trick for several months now, and plan to use it for my Christmas Shows. I'll hopefully have the full routine ready to send to the select few who own this, sometime in the New Year.
Meanwhile, if anyone has any tips about the effect, it would be great to hear from you! Potty |
