I could spend hours writing about the whole thing, but here's the headlines - we can fill in the specifics later! The things that stuck with me are:
- Jon 'Tomo' Thompson about what is likely to the be the future of some of our favourite props! -seeing the brilliant Smoke & Mirrors benedict box in action - Dolly Darko demo by Dan (alliterative heaven!) - Luke Jermay doing his stuff, with a bizarre slant and some of the best tips on reading, and demo'ing his memory routine at 2am in the bar! (Personal highlight) - Rich Lavengood speaking openly and frankly about Don Viano and the show, and how/WHY it works! And then performing the multi-handcuff escape. - Michael Diamond peforming "Syringed" for the world première, as well as his other shenanigans! - Every little idea Jim Critchlow had, and then selling me a copy of "The Fallen" an immense WWI based effect, sure to become a favourite and a classic around these parts (US guys - wait for the American Civil War version!) - Roni demonstrating his Quabalistic/Numerology reading system, and scoring an overall 95% hit rate - Mat Redmond's 10 magicians, which tickled me - Paul Cooper and Roger Curzon doing their story based routines close up (and seeing Roger's envelope in action also around 2am! - Genius and sweet as in operation!) - BJ Powers performing routines from the birth of Bizarre - classic presentation skills - Jon Randall telling us how many mediums are fake (what?!) - Brian "BEHOLD!" Maxwell, as brilliant as ever, showing us where Monty Python and Bizarre magic meet - Dr Todd showcasing his "Regression" piece - clever clever stuff - Frank Allan/Alain - the man who puts magic into bizarre magic, and yet still lets the tale drive proceedings; his close up skills are as good as I've seen, and yet they beautifully illustrate his dark story-telling without ever intruding. Genius stuff. Really. Favourite line of the whole weekend is a toss-up between "BEHOLD!" and "You know there's something wrong with your relationship when, as a pair of adults, you have to say to your partner, 'Can you please just come to the shops not dressed as a pirate this once!'" Roll on next year!

Excellent venue, excellent people, and learned so much. I am very grateful to Roni for all his hard work setting this up. I loved the castle and my 'cell'...Saw a lot of great performances and enjoyed the lectures and smaller aspects of the event. And a bar that shut when we were done...nice!

Thank you all for your warm words that definately keep me going. Doomsday 2012 schedule of performers is almost ready. I think you will like it. Apart of that I think I have managed to secure two surprises and I am working on the 3rd one.
So far I keep on getting phone calls and emails to say how much people enjoyed themselves and this is excellent. All the very best Roni |
