It's not quite the "precog" based idea of the movie, but the comparison to the "pre-crime" premise is being made by some.

Seems like more of just a screening process for now, so I'd say such comparisons would have to wait untill it is seen what is done with it, and the people found to have "malintent."

Could end up saving lives, could lead to virtual thought crime persecution.
It's amazing, people will criticize you for "biting the hand that feeds you," while they're busy praising the hand that beats them.

I won't forget you Robert.

The premise is a futuristic world in which a select group of psychics can foresee crimes before they occur, and based on that, people who haven't yet done anything are arrested for the crimes they haven't yet committed.

Tom Cruise is the leading man in it. Steven Spielberg directed.

Yes, really.

It was just 3 precogs, I think, and people weren't just arrested, they were put into suspended animation. At least in the movie. I don't think I read the book. Dick's books have quite a different tone when filmed. I'm still waiting to see The Man in the High Castle on the silver screen.

I am still wondering why GDW now has a problem with "movie authority" aparantly.

Wait I heard the government is learning and teaching cops and soldiers the "Jedi Mind Trick". We are all in trouble now. (Link to follow.)

I wonder if the makers of that film knew how much it was going to suck before they did it Smile

Hey, now that you mention it, why did Tom Cruise even need other psychics? Isn't he some level 12 or something Scientology master who can read minds and fly and stuff?

He's not the psychic. He's a cop who trusts the psychics and the system completely... until his name comes up in the file.

That's what I'm saying... why wasn't he the psychic? I mean, he has actual magical powers endowed to him by the aliens in real life, so it's a perfect fit. Unless he just wanted to stretch his acting chops by not being typecast as his super powerfully magical self.
