I owned a trick back in the 70s that was a black cardboard folder with a haunted house screened on the outside front and back. Inside was a rabbit card screened on both sides (it was actually a folder, but showed as a card). It was like a 2-D, inexpensive version of Hippity Hop Rabbits. I think there may have been a Santa option too.
Anyone know what it was called and if it's still available? Thanks! |

It sounds like a Supreme effect. I will see if I can find it.

John,
You might be thinking of a trick called "Pinky the Spook." See a small jpg at http://thumbs1.ebaystatic.com/m/mzKJXbUL....../140.jpg You're close when you said "It was like a 2-D, inexpensive version of Hippity Hop Rabbits." I think a more apropos comparison would be "Casper the Friendly Ghost Meets Fraidy Cat Rabbit." (Or maybe "Timmy the Timid Ghost Meets Fraidy Cat Rabbit" http://d1466nnw0ex81e.cloudfront.net/iss......91_1.jpg ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

I've created a prototype on my own. So far, so good.

There's not enough information on any of the given links for me to determine just what this effect is. Can someone enlighten me and provide a brief description of the routine/story? It looks like it might be a fun trick to include on a Halloween show.
Thanks! TED |

It was a black cardboard folder with a haunted house screened on the front and back (one side upside down from the other). Inside was a second folder (unbeknowngst to the audience that it was a folder). You showed the item on the inside, then closed it up. Hiding behind big gestures, you flip it over and both the house and character on the inside have changed color (the one graphic showing has a ghost. I don't remember the ghost, but maybe... my memory gets foggy from back then). You repeat it, with the kids calling to "turn it around" al a hippy hop rabbits. You remove the inner folder (which looks like a single card), go through the routine, and show the back of the character.
My new, updated version has a house for "Pinky" the Rabbit. The white rabbit turns pink in front of crowds, hence my no longer using a rabbit in my act. Plus, Pinky insisted on traveling with his family. The reveal has multi-colored smaller rabbits... Pinky's "family". Thanks, John, for that description. This is a new effect for, having never heard of it before. Sounds cool, though! Would love to see what you come up with.

I just figured out what you guys were discussing; "Pinky the Spook," which was put out in 1964 by Madblood Creations. It was based on Bill Paul's "Fraidy Cat Rabbit" from 1953, but made entirely of cardboard so it was less expensive than the wooden "Fraidy Cat" prop. Last April I did some work on it, adding the effect to my "Greeting Card Magic" in the Dollar Store Book 1 section of my site. The trick is easily made in a greeting card size as well as larger sizes and by printing out the cards on your inkjet printer, you cam make it fit any theme you can imagine. I included my own variation of the effect in which the house folder and spook card are definitely distinct and separate and can be handed out at the end if you wish.

I found it! I've attached a photo, but it was part of a very large collection of vintage magic tricks for sale on the auction site. Anyone know where I can get one of these? Or have one they might want to part with?
