Does anyone know when or even if David Copperfield will have another tv special? How come it has been a couple years since his last..and how come it had been several years before that? If anyone knows anything about this I would like to hear about it!
Thanks! |

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe David Copperfield had a special last year with Tornado of Fire. Think about it thoug. Each special has to have new effects or the viewing audience might feel cheated seeing the same effects again. That means each special he has to work on new magic. How often woul you guess he changes his show. There are members here on the Café who can tell you they performed the same material for over 10 years. I am sure that is one of the reasons.

He used to have yearly specials like Doug did at one time. Clorox was his biggest sponsor with exclusiveness to CBS. I think part of the issues is sponsorship. I don't think Clorox sponsored his last special, which was the time travel thingy not the tornado of fire.
There's a lot magic specials that are not on regular tv anymore, more on cable. They used to have the yearly greatest magic series out of Vegas but for only five years then it was cancelled. Lance Burton's second show was on NBC 6 years ago. The first one never aired. Since then he has only done cable. I think as appealing and popular magic is right now there really isn't much interest by the tv networks to produce it. Specially when people can do better by viewing it live.

Actually...Lance had three specials air on NBC during three consecutive years, and then after a brief hiatus, has had three separate specials air on cable. Two on the Family Channel and one on Animal Planet.
His first two NBC specials can be purchased on DVD from Amazon.com if you weren't able to tape them. |

Wasn't the Tornado of fire right after the Portal illusion on his last special?

That's correct. His last special had the "Portal" show basically... with the "Uncle Morty and Aunt Ida" floating sofa; the "Voyeur;" the "Tides" illusion with the moon rock, wine glass, and goldfish; the "One" appearance; and of course "Portal." After that he did "Tornado of Fire" which was live from a pier in New York City.
Other illusions, such as "13," were taped at the same time and only aired in other countries. This was in April 2001. Word has it that another special is in development right now. Most of the illusions from the TOF special are no longer in the show and have almost all been replaced with new illusions. In fact none of the ones I listed except "Portal" are still there, but most had been on the tour for many years prior. I guess the special sort of retired a lot of them. --Jack |

David said that he owes CBS another special, and that he hopes to have it out soon. They are still putting things together for it. Nothing has been filmed yet, and no date has been set. I'm sure that as soon a date is released, it will be advertised on this website.
And yes, most of the illusions in David's current tour have not been on any previous specials. Along with these illusions, there were many from his last tour that did not make it on the "Tornado Of Fire" special. He has plenty of material to make a new special, however, they have not come up with a ending to the show. Portal is still being used to close the tour.

Just on a note answering earlier... David's TOF Special WAS in fact sponsored by our great friends at Clorox. (Are you kidding, you think they'd drop David?) It'd be like winning the jackpot in Vegas and saying "Nah I just like to play". HAHA!

Was about to post a new thread about this, but then stumbled on to this one. Glad I used the search function.
I can't wait for David's next special. I hope they'll consider airing some of the illusions from TOF that didn't get broadcast here in the states ("13"). This definitely gives me something to look forward to this year. |

I don't know if it will be airing this year; I just said they're working on one.
