Hey guys! I really need your help in loading/containing silks.
I need a type of silk holder/loader or anything that can hold a silk in place, to be ready for stealing for my dove act. I want to be able to steal it for a flash paper to silk effect, or dove to silk effect. Please help. Any recommendations?

There was a gentleman from Japan who worked at Abbott's who had a great gizmo that held the flash string, silk and match all in one gimmick. I can't think of the company name but Joe Stevens used to import their stuff. You might be able to get it from SEO magic.

Yes, it was UGM. It was part of the gentleman's lecture at Abbott's.

Hi guys, what I mean is how do I fold a silk to be able to place it into a pocket/loader/holder, and then steal it later in my act, then to be able to open it with ease?

I suggest that you get Rice's Encyclopedias and start reading all the ways to produce a single silk.

Unforunately, it's hard to get stuff like that here in the Philippines hugmagic. May I ask a question sir? Can I use magicians wax to hold a silk in a small folded manner with the end outjogged so I can right away thumbpalm it and produce?

I wouldn't use magician's wax with any silk.
Sew a small bead to the outermost corner of a rolled silk, this will make it easy to locate the corner without looking at it. to keep the silk in a bundle you have several options: 1) tie a piece of weak thread around the bundle PERPENDICULAR to the way the silk is rolled. Preferably, this weak thread is placed towards one end of the rolled bundle. In this manner, when the ilk is produced, a snapping motion of th hands will cause the thread to fall off or break and allow the silk to open. 2) alternately, a very small dress snap can be put about 1/2 " below where the bead is and the other half of the snap fastener is attached to the body of the silk when it is rolled. Again, a quick movement of the wrist will cause the snap to disengage and the silks will unroll. 3) You could do the same thing with a band of tissue paper, but I find that the bit of paper will fall to the ground...an inelegant solution in my opinion. 4) A rubber band placed around the silk does the job as well. 5) The best solution is to roll the silk into a bundle, almost up to the previously attached bead and then the last inch or so of the silk is tucked into the body of the silk...this will cause it to created a self contained tight bundle. if you have left the bead exposed, it will be easy to grab, and a slight pull will release the tucked corner...causing he silk to unroll. Jneal is right on the money with his advice.
Also if you cannot afford to get the Rice books, Jean Hugard published a smaller book on silks that has been republished by Dover books. It is like $4 or so. Richard

Yes, it is a sort of roll up of a silk, only you asked for a flat silk in your pocket, these 2 meets your needs. I had to build my computer piece by piece, one part at a time. Took over a year to get all the parts. |

If you don't have any resources to magic books, you can download one for free by going to the Learned Pig website http://www.thelearnedpig.com.pa/home.html You have to be able to answer some questions to be able get access, but anyone with basic magic knowledge should be able to do so with no problem.
You'll find that Jean Hugard's Silken Sorcery is in there and it will show you how to fold a silk and methods to produce them. |

This week in Myrtle Beach, I noticed that Richard Hughes has what may be the solution for the appearance of a silk for many magicians. The rest you need to learn from him. I do know that it works!

It is Berland Silk Appear. If you can handle a hank ball or fickle nickle, you can use it. It allows the silk to appear at the fingertips with the fingers wide open before production. No sleeves or body loads.
Gosh, this sounds like a dealer ad but that is how it is. I have used up to a 24" silk. I know guys that use 36" silks. The silk is unprepared and immediately removeable from the gimmick for other uses. Richard

This is my 1st Intel product and even though other brands allow over clocking of components, whereas Intel does not, they are good products to actually get your work completed. I did, and no one sent a check or the parts needed. I now have what I consider my super computer, that can edit video, scan all my magic document info to disc, and book shows automatically without the need to interact with the potential client. Just added 3 more computers to the chain for multi-tasking. |
