In that case, let's throw in Casino Royal vs Dr. No.

In 42 years they will still be showing the the John Wayne version of the True Grit, just like they do today 42 years after it was made. Even 5 years from now if you want to talk about the Jeff Bridges version of True Grit you will have to refer to it as "the remake". If anyone even remembers that someone remade it. It will never be considered the classic that the original is, nor will it become the standard version in anyones mind. " I would say that anything the Coen Brothers do will live on as a classic. They are one of the most inventive, entertaining film makers of our generation and I would venture to say that the John Wayne version will be completely forgotten in favor of the Coen Brothers. Just my opinon. |

Coen Brothers will never top The Big Lebowski. Now that is a classic.

Nah, you'd want to compare 1966 Casino Royale with 2006 Casino Royale. I prefer the remake.

One could argue that the second remake of Mutiny on the Bounty was better than the first, but I'm not sure it was better than the original. Sir Anthony Hopkins or Sir Charles Lawton? Both absolutely brilliant as Bly. The same can be asked of who played a better Fletcher Christian.
Either or, on of the truly great films. |

Vin Diesel's xXx already proved that Bond is obsolete anyway.

There's a cool-looking remake of Fright Night on the way.

It's funny, I was talking to two of my friends the other day about the modern sparkly teen vampgetarian crap, and I said "When did vampires stop being the monsters? Remember 'Fright Night' and that Stephen King one with the airplane vampire with the creepy egg tooth?" Then I get home and as soon as I turn on the TV, a preview for the new 'Fright Night.' Excellent. We're takin' it back!

On the hprror front "The Fly" was an excellent remake--although nothing will ever freak me out like that scene at the end of the original " Help Me...Help Me"

I hope so. I thought it was great too that in the preview somebody says something to the effect of "I think you've been watching too much Twilight."
My girlfriend's daughter's birthday is this weekend and she's obsessed with the "Vampire Diaries" so I had to go to Hot Topic to buy her something from the show. Going in there is what sparked my tirade against the pansification of vampires. I blame Anne Rice for starting the trend.
