Good day Magicians!
I was wondering if anybody knew the order of the cards they have to be in so that after a pefect faro shuffle they separate in black and red. So what I intend to do is to show the cards all mixed up, then do a perfect faro und suddenly the are perfectly separated into black and red and in perfect order? If that is even possible And if it is not possible do you know the order the cards have to be in so that after a pefect faro shuffle they are in new stack order? Is there a KNOWN order? Thank you |

Yes, of course their is a known order... but it is rather simple to work out for your self by having the deck in your desired stack and then doing a reverse faro, or a number of reverse faros to reach a state that looks mixed.

To get cards separated into Reds and Blacks after a Perfect Faro, they have to be 1/4 Red, 1/4 Black, 1/4 Red and 1/4 Black before it.

There's no real mystery to this.
Put the cards in the order that you want -- new deck order, red-black order, whatever. Then, injog and outjog each card alternately, and then strip out the packets from each other. If you do a perfect Faro of those two packets, they'll go back to the way they were.

Don't worry too much about it.
If you're willing to do multiple faros, and perhaps run a few cards in an overhand shuffle between faros, you might get what you're looking for. Lennart Green also offers a system on his false shuffles DVD that might even work for you.

If you really want to both learn and understand how the Faro shuffle works, you should treat yourself to Allan Ackerman's "The Faro Shuffle" DVD. It is worth every dollar.

Before your performance set the deck into reds and blacks and then do 5 or 6 perfect faros. You can then show the deck as being mixed, do a couple of false cuts and/or shuffles if you feel like it, then do two or three perfect faros as you stress how well the dedk is being shuffled - and you're there. HL.
P.S.: Years ago, that's how I'd get into my Out Of This Universe. I don't bother now, because there are easier ways and I also want to do it impromptu and not as a first effect - I set the deck during a preceding effect or use my The Great Divide. But it sure did work for OOTU all those years ago.

By setting up the stack with 5 or 6 perfect faros, one can show the faces of a "well mixed" deck. Doing 2 or 3 perfect faros after the spread brings the deck to Kindergarten-order. Sweet. Edit: I highly recommend to look up the Kindergarten stack. It may look too simple at first glance but I think it's simply brilliant in it's simplicity. You will have a stack in your arsenal where you know the location of every single card - but there is a price to pay: it will take you approx. 5 min. to learn it - and from then on you will never forget it for the rest of your life. |

Would you mind sharing a reference or any source where this Stack can be learned? Thank you |

You can also use the Si Stebbins System.
Darwin Ortiz has a way and shuffle the deck to Si Stebbins system in under 30 seconds from new deck order with two Faro shuffles and a little extra .... in the eyes of the spectator. They'll think you mix the deck just terrible. Everyone will say that one stack is better than the others, check out and find your own favorite. -M- |

Amazing how much you can get out of this ingenious idea. The only other stack I learned is the "Osterlind Breakthrough Card System", which is in everyones reach also - look up the breathtaking history of it, must have been one of the greatest moments in magic history to finally discover the brilliantly perfect "Osterlind"-System. But it's harder to learn compared to the easy Kindergarten; and you don't know the position of each card in the deck, except you put in the hard work to memorize it of course... |

Maybe you're lucky and the guy still has the "Memorease" for sale... |

I second the above. Paul Gertner's DVD is awesome for learning the Faro! Was doing perfect Faros after only minutes.
