Magic friends,
I do not know if this topic has been posted before but I would like to hear your ideas about advertise a provider (for example Coca Cola) during your illusion program. I don't ask how to advertise something with the common tricks—for example you can advertise Coke in the Passe Passe bottles—but I would like to know your ideas about advertising something with no common tricks. For example Coca Cola with the Zig Zag girl... I hope you understand what am I trying to say. Looking forward to hear your ideas. 8) karipk |

There are ways to promote your modified show. For example, you could get a corporation to sponsor your show and everything that is written about the show and planned sponsor plugs during the show all help the sponsor.
Now, for that sponsorship, they pay your monthly fee and you deliver the show free of charge to the schools and malls. It is a matter of how you present it to the corporation. What is in it for them? If you could convince them name recognition, increased sales, community service, customer relations, etc. you could land a decent living, sponsored paid. Of course, the way it is presented must do the show, as well as the sponsor, justice. I remember the Keeble Cookie Magic Show. Same show all over the country, built and paid for by the makers of Keeble Cookies (and their magic elves).

There is also the guy working full time for Budweiser. I think it is a great concept for steady income but it will limit your ability to take on other work.
Also, it will take a good size investment from your side as these people will want to see real life production sketches of what you are planning. They are very concerned if the sponsored presentation lives up to their standards. You might have to build a good part of the show without them buying it and do a couple presentations just to be rejected in the end. It is sure an expensive way to get into the business unless you have a warehouse full of illusions that "just" need to be customized... |

Feel free to do as you please but I believe the most important thing is to keep your dignity.
I have seen some great magicians prostitute themselves to companies at the cost of their art and at the cost of the entertainment value of the show. I have also seen magicians who, whilst working in the logo and product etc., still maintain their dignity. The other thing to consider is that a lot of companies have shady pasts that you might not want to be associated with. Imagine being the Enron magician or the Firestone magician or the Shell magician? In terms of illusions you might like to decide whether you want to sell the product or feature. Some companies are happy just to have their logo on the stage with, "Proudly brought to you by..." Others want a "sales" message in the act. If you have to put in a sales message, think about the image and benefits of the product and which effects would best help to communicate that rather then saying, "How can I saw a lady in half and sell cheese in a can?" ending in a forced and obvious sales pitch. |
