I know you area looking for specifically visual things that people perceive differently BUT I think that dual reality is one of the most powerful (and under-used IMHO) methods. Infact, if I am ever in the middle of any sort of routine based on NLP and things go awry, I use the impromptu version of DB's 'psychic touch' or 'Lift' (if the setting allows for it) and the folks are so quickly amazed that the previous effect (which didn't work out) is completely forgotten
