I am looking for effects where a persons perception is changed. This could for example be a spectator looking at a picture and seeing a horse, while everyone else knows it is a picture of a cat. His perception is altered, and the audience are living proof to that.

Do any of you magic geniuses know of effects similar to that?

I have an effect called "History Rewritten" which does EXACTLY what you describe.
It isn't available standalone, but is in Pablo Amira's "Thinking About Japan" ebook.
For $15 you get a whole lot of other ideas too.

Check also my friend Kenton Knepper´s Sign of Influence.

Incredible material.

I send him a few days ago with this concept that could create a great twist in a classic effect.

Jay Sankey has an effect who's name escapes me at the moment... it's presented as a memory effect but it can be presented as you described.

And thanks for bringing this up... I just had an awesome idea!

Royal Road to Card Magic has an effect very similar to what you are describing (with playing cards, obviously). I believe it's described in the Top Change section, although I don't recall the name.

Joshua Quinn's Paralies book has exactly what you are looking for.
I call myself "Thomas Cooper" here because this stops the magic café appearing when people google my stage name.

Does anyone else find the term "Special User" to be a bit condescending?

I am a big fan of this effect. It is called memory lapse, and can be found on his DVD "22 Blows to the Head." Jay's presentation is good, but there are a lot of possibilities with this effect. It is easy to perform from a technical point of view (OTL principle), which leaves a lot of room to work on presentation and use your own creativity--which is how I like it. I tend to take a different approach than he does, since I use a lot of suggestion and real psychological tricks in my shows. I like this effect so much, because the whole premise of making someone forget something is very intriguing and and it offers a real presentation challenge. When the atmosphere is right, and I have the audience in the correct frame of mind, this generates more talk than a lot of my other effects.

I think it's important to put this effect into the context of a performance.

If performed on its own, I'm not sure how powerful this effect would be on a lay person. I think maybe might immediately jump to "trick".

But within a series of demonstrations I think it would play much stronger.

I could be wrong... and often am.

Thanks for the recommendation and yes, it supports a good cause.

Luke Jermay has such an effect in 7 Deceptions. You write a word on a piece of paper. Three people look at it but all are found to be thinking of a different word.

Actually, that's closer to a dual reality/In*****S***** effect and isn't what the OP is talking about. He is looking for material in which the actual effect is that the on-stage participant sees something different from everyone else and that fact is known to the audience.

Good thoughts,

Bob

Why?

I am sure it has to do with your persona
and the script of your show.

Since we have all been fine fellows why not fill
in for us the bits about your persona and show.

Or why and how this is to be used in your show.

Jim

I was just about to suggest that myself. Smile

With Kenton's Signs of Influence it forms a full toolkit.
