Why do we need to post here on the Café to receive these updates Jamie?
I'm not seeing the connection. I bought IR, you have my email address (you've already sent me a bunch of emails).........so send out the updates to your mailing list of customers. Am I missing something? |

Got Jamie's email with the new routines......
some really great stuff here (i particularly like the 'black hole' one; plus the serrated coin-edge is cool!) Thanks Jamie, as ever, serious commitment to his customers. Paul |

I have received my IR a few weeks ago and have been playing around with this and entertaining my friends.
This is a a magical piece of art .Its well made and a joy to use .The customer service from Jamie was outstanding and kept me up to date with progress on my order and was delivered quicker than I thought as I live I'm in England.. But this product will always be with me when I perform as its that strong ...Fantastic thinking behind this and can see why this was no 1 magic item of 2011...Waiting for the vault to come available to be the perfect companion for my IR thanks Jamie |

You guys put up with a lot of reading, have contributed so much, and overall have been the main reason for my success! So it was a way of saying "thanks!". And when I tried to do it via PM, my inbox filled up within the day. So then I had some just e-mail me, and believe it or not, I received a handful of requests from people who didn't own an IR (?!) Why on earth they were trying to get the routines is still beyond me. (sigh). Anyways, it seemed to be the easiest way to correlate the two. And as for just sending the e-mails to everyone, at some point I probably should, but you would be amazed at the number of people who don't use their Paypal e-mail for anything other than funding (i.e. they never read it). That's still something I'm trying to work out, as I don't know how many people haven't read their initial first 3 e-mails. I hope that makes some sense as I'm not sure it does, lol. It's also nice to see who actually owns one. You get so many orders and have no idea if they're friends from here or not. So that's nice for me. Thanks for buying one, by the way! My best, jamie

Sorry Jamie, it still doesn't make sense to me.
I'm failing to make any connection between posting on the Magic Café, and somehow having that confirm ones email address. 90% of Café users post anonymously, and even fewer people have their actual email addresses on public display here on the Café. I'm still not seeing any connection between putting up a new post on the Magic Café, and in return, getting these additional routines? |

Okay, so after a couple of private conversations, it seems like I need to readdress my VIP List protocol. Let me state that I don't want to be seen as manipulating the Café, or my wonderful customers!, by bringing this thread constantly to the top or asking them to do something they might not want to. So:
VIP LIST 1) Send me an e-mail with the subject "I'm member [name] on the Café. Please VIP me!" 2) That's it! I hope that clears things up. My best, jamie

OK... I’ve been putting off posting this for a while now.
The first intention was to film this for Jamie’s Win A Bottle competition. But Life got in the way and the deadline passed. Then I thought I’d write it up, to share with all IR owners. Again, life got in the way. Well, now it’s time to get my a** in gear so here we go...my (slightly) bizarre presentation for IR. It’s a long read so please feel free to pass it by. PROLOGUE My interest in magic was all down to my granddad. He was the first one who showed me a card trick, and from the first I was hooked. Every visit to granddad meant another card trick. Weekends at granddad’s were magical. And the most magical thing was a bottle on a shelf high above the mantelpiece. It was a bottle containing an old battered deck of cards. But as much as I asked, and as much as granddad was willing to share his love of magic with me, the bottle was off limits. He wouldn’t even discuss it. Years slipped by, and things like girls and work take over. Soon I was in my mid twenties; and granddad was getting old and infirm. I went round to help sort out some stuff in readiness for him to move into a nursing home. Maybe it was seeing my childhood hero so weak and frail that had me unnerved, but I was all fingers and thumbs Suddenly, while moving the wall clock, I heard a crash. I’d knocked the bottle off the shelf and it now lay on the hearth in pieces. Granddad looked stunned. Despite his infirmity and unsteadiness, he insisted on picking up the card box himself. He slowly sat back in his chair and looked up at me. “I think you should know about these cards now” he said. GRANDDAD’S STORY Granddad had learned all his tricks from a man called Archie Green, a steel worker from Sheffield. They’d met on a French beach on D Day. Archie had got trapped in some barbed wire and was at the mercy of the German machine guns. Granddad ran back, pulled him free and dragged him up the beach. They were the best of friends from then on. Archie said he owed my granddad, big time. And once the war was over he’d buy my granddad the best meal in the best restaurant in London. What little spare time there was available to them during those dark days, Archie spent showing my granddad every card trick he knew. “There was nothing Archie couldn’t do with a pack of cards.” Granddad said. Some time later and granddad and his mates were cut off from the main force and pinned down by a two man machine gun team, in a disused barn somewhere in Belgium or Holland. Archie had been shot in the chest and it was clear he wasn’t going to make it through the day. “Looks like you won’t be getting that meal after all,” he managed to joke through the pain. He took his pack of cards and pushed them into granddads pocket. This is the first time I bring out IR. In a battered old box that looks like it’s been through the war. I don’t try to hide the slits but I handle it in such a way that the slits go unnoticed. I take the box and put it slowly into my outside breast pocket. “Share the magic,” said Archie before slipping slowly away. The rest of the guys had to make a quick decision. They knew that enemy reinforcements were on the way. The only chance was to try and rush the machine gun position and then get back to the main force before nightfall. They drew straws. Granddad drew the short one. He was to be first one out the door. He reloaded his rifle, fixed his bayonet and made ready. At this point I idly pick up a table knife as if using it to illustrate the point about the bayonet. And I keep hold of it as I continue. Granddad rushed out of the door and towards the enemy machine gun. He caught them a little off guard and was half way towards them before they spotted him. But before he made it to the sand-bagged position he was out of ammunition. He continued his headlong dash with only his bayonet to rely on. The machine gun opened fire but almost immediately jammed. Granddad was at his target now and leapt over the sand bag wall. The machine gunner grabbed his own bayonet, and as granddad was in mid jump, he plunged the blade at granddads heart. I point the knife at my own heart, behind the deck of cards in my pocket. I then remove IR and continue. We’ve all heard stories of people being saved by bibles or cigarette tins that stop bullets in some miraculous way. But a pack of cards in the pocket of an 11 stone man jumping through the air is no match for a sharp bayonet. Here I push the knife through the box and then remove it. During the next sentence I do the necessary. But maybe Archie the steel worker from Sheffield still had one trick up his sleeve, because the bayonet didn’t go through at all. Demonstrate the knife not going through My granddad was forever grateful for Archie’s gift of a humble pack of cards, and that’s why it lived in a glass bottle on a shelf, above the fireplace. Now I tip out the block. As the block gets passed around I lighten the mood by saying “If only he’d shown me how the heck he got it into the glass bottle.” Well there it is. Thanks for reading. Well steveline, this is the real @#%^. Thank you for showing us how this can be a truly, truly, moving presentation. You had me from "granddad."
Thank you.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Excellent presentation Steve! You truly have a knack for how to present a magic effect. Well done!
@Slide: You expressed concern over how to present IR in a way that is not boring... An original and interesting presentation is the key. One that builds just the right amount of interest along with a bit of tension to add spice. Steve has generously posted the perfect example of this! Don't you think the revelation of the IR device will be that much more amazing after listening to Steve's presentation? I sure do! Thanks again Steve! Jim |

Thanks for the comments on the presentation guys.
There are some little nuances I sometimes add, like taking a battered card out of the box showing a jagged bayonet hole in it before the final reveal. steve |
