For any of the younger guys who don't frequent pubs and bars, the cocktail swords are common items you should be able to find in almost any country.
For example: http://www.shopwiki.co.uk/d/0/0/Cocktail-sword-fruit-picks

More on cocktail swords:
Set of decorated swords made in Spain. One set only from this seller, so this link won't last long: http://tinyurl.com/metal-cocktail-swords ...Etsy had other sellers listed, so metal swords are out on the Web. These you wouldn't want to hand out but the less expensive plastic ones, besides being "festively colored", could be given away as a souvenir double-impaled on a business card.

I ordered some from Amazon - just received them today... 400 of the doggone things for $7.85!
Only problem is that they advertised and showed an image of "translucent" swords, but sent solid color ones. Oh well - no one is going to see them that well. Thanks! Jim |

I think one of of should buy the swords and can make a tidy business of reselling them like 50-100 at a time to Café members. Could be a new business model. Jim! What are you gonna do with 400 of those bad boys?

I've come up with a (maybe new) presentation for my IR routine.
You start off by saying that magic is all about perception and making you believe that you're perceiving something impossible (i think someone posted this idea somewhere in this thread). You bring out the deck and a kitchen knife and say "right now, you perceive this as a deck of cards and a kitchen knife" then you say "but if I were to stick this knife through the deck, your perception of these objects will change" stick the knife through the deck. then you say "but if I were to do this, it will change your perception. maybe you think that the card box is empty. maybe you think the cards have a hole in them, maybe you think the knife isn't really going through the box and it's just an illusion. So now, I want you to imagine something that could be in this box that would make this impossible. Not cards or anything... but something that could be inside the box that would make it impossible for me to put this knife through it." you'll be shocked at how many people say right away "a block of metal". or if it's a group of people, just keep asking for other ideas until someone says a block of metal. if no one says it, just suggest that as a possibility. the reason I say "not cards or anything" is because if you don't say that, some people will say "a deck of cards with no hole in it". in which case, I used to say "no, think of something more impossible than that because there could be some sort of trick cards"... but if you tell them not to suggest cards... there's not a lot of other good answers other than block of metal. even if they say something like "block of wood"... it's fine to just say something like "good suggestion... so a solid block of anything, like wood or metal would make it impossible for the knife to go through the box." then ask the person to imagine that there's a solid block of metal in the card box. tell them to imagine that the knife is right now going back and forth through a solid block of metal in the card box. then remove the knife, open the box, pour the block of metal into their hand. and if they said "block of metal" ... then you can say as a joke at the end "you should have said a block of gold... we would have all been rich". so if you can get someone to say "block of metal" ... you get the double effect of making a thought of object appaer inside a box of cards... and you also get the effect of putting the knife through the card box. they are very surprised when a block of metal slides into their hands... since you've just made the most impossible situation they could think of, come true. and if they don't guess "block of metal" ... it's not like it matters... the trick is still amazing... you just get the extra kicker if they happen to make that suggestion |

Got the IR last week and love it. Ordered a birchwood silicone cloth to keep it clean as I like the shiny look and my hands sweat a lot.

Hiya Gang!
I just wanted to give all of you who are doing holiday gigs the name of the case I use to carry Industrial Revelation on my belt: it's called the Lowepro Santiago 20. It's a camera case- but it fits an IR (also inside a Vault if you have one) perfectly! And it doesn't sag (which is key)- so I don't even notice it. The belt loop is super tight to the case. I'll attach a couple of pics from their site: I keep mine on the belt space further back so it doesn't block the pocket. I hope that helps! Your pal, jamie

Ok, Did first public performance of this last Saturday. Two I remember well. First, a 12 yr. old girl blind from birth. She checked the steel block with the hands of someone with a delicate touch! NO gaff found! Then a 5 Yr. old boy, I have never seen eyes that young go that wide before! I am using my business card folded in half length wise, that gets my card out there!

I don't know if this topic was covered already as this is a VERY long thread, but I have put a moisture absorber in the box when I store IR so that it doesn't oxidize over time. I got the moisture absorber from an aspirin bottle.

Questions:
I like to be prepared to minimize the possibility of the method being revealed. When I am performing this for a group of people it is easy because I can dump it in one person's hands and ask hem to pass it around. They then feel like they shouldn't take up too much time with it. However, when I am performing for a small group of people or a single person, I like to have a followup. This prop is very nice and I think it can withstand a fair amount of scrutiny. Also, I have handed out props that can't withstand as much scrutiny, but my method is to take them back quickly by saying "Let me show you something even more unusual with that." So, 1. Any thoughts on how to minimize the amount of time someone spends scrutinizing the prop? and 2. Any thoughts on any follow up effect you might do involving the prop? One thought I have on #2 is to take back the prop as part of a routine on magnetizing objects. KJ |

Ha! I 'm pretty sure that's a joke! Hmmm. Just in case it's not, though:
1) Thank you SO MUCH for looking out for me. That's awesome to know there is that kind of support out there! and, 2) The matchbox effect is actually the trick I talk about waaaaaay back on page 1 in this thread http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......218&2057 and on the instructions for IR. So all is good!! jamie P.S. I'm great friends with Acar and his whole team. I trust them completely and know them to be honorable and awesome. Shop there with joy!

It was a joke guys. Think it sounded funnier in my head after being out for the night with a few bottles of wine. I read what I wrote the next day and said "man, that wasn't funny at all, in fact I don't even get it". Ahh well. A comedian I'm not.
BTW .. Acar is phenomenal and I would never seriously imply anything of the sort seriously. |
