Reminded of that Post, we should put together a FAQ from Users here. So...what are your best ideas and thoughts that you'd give potential buyers? Any help will get you on my secret VIP list
I'll start: INDUSTRIAL REVELATION FAQ __________________________ How to explain the hole in the deck? "I asked someone to "cut the deck" and look what they did! Who does that? What's the best way to reveal the block- does the magician take it out of the box, or the spectator? I find that, more often than not, I lay the deck on their hand (so they can feel the weight) and then I remove the block, placing it in their hand. Will my IR get rusty? Yes, but I like to think of it more like "discoloration". It won't make your hands orange, for example. This is 100% the way I keep my own! If you were going to buy a chunk of steel from somewhere, would you go to a junkyard or a jewelry store? for me, the more used, the better. What if I want to keep it shiny? Hopefull, Gaffed can post his answer here. Do you need to be strong to work my IR? You can adjust it (how you can adjust a solid block of steel, you ask? That's our secret.) to whatever your strength. I like my IR smooth. Any suggestions? Olive Oil. Is it really examinable? Absolutely! I have given mine out HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of times with zero problem. Now, would I give it to someone and ask them to go for a walk for an hour and come back with it? No, lol. But do I let spectators handle it? Absolutely! What else can I use besides a quarter? I've used plastic knives, folded cards, and stir sticks! How do you carry something so awesome as a 1.5 pound block of solid steel? Well, we have all decided that I wear my pants too tight, because I can carry mine in my front pocket with zero problems. Others have used cell phone cases and Joshua Jay's Pro Carrier Case with great results! __________________________________________________________________ You get the idea! Who else can contribute? What advice can we give to help people make the most of this? You guys are so awesome! Your pal, jamie http://www.SendWonder.com

Nice one, mine is also very easy to set, I actually wish that is was a little bit harder to do since I usually only once per time and better safe than sorry, ya know. Still, I have handed it out every single time and even though mine isn't "tight" nobody has even come close
Also, Olive Oil doesn't seem to work for me, I'm still getting a very audible "click", not as smooth as I'd like. I can imagine what a smooth one would be like and I really want mine to be like that |

Does this count?
"Can I perform this surrounded?" Absolutely! There are no sensitive angles what so ever. In fact, you can invite your spectators to pay close attention to the penetration as it happens. I hope this is good enough! I so wanna be on Jamie's VIP list. *Crosses fingers* |

Blaque_Magik-
Loved your great photos! Many thanks for those and I'm sure now Jamie has you entered. As far as setting my gimmick, mine easily sets without brute strength. The key I think is the roll **n and that is adjustable.

One of the best tips I've received was from steveline. His insert idea works incredibly well, and is very easy to remove right in front of the spectators. My block works very easily, and I could get it trouble with it if I didn't use something to keep it in the "ready" position. Steve's solution works great!
My suggestion for the VIP list regards the card box. Just use some Scotch "Magic" tape on the wear points on the outside (yes, outside) of the box and the box will last for a very long time. I did this to my box over two months ago, and it still works great. I have performed this around 100 times since fortifying my card box, and no one has detected the tape. Cheers! Sammy

Just in case you're now joining us!
IR FAQ: 1) How to explain the hole in the deck? "I asked someone to "cut the deck" and look what they did! Who does that? 2) What's the best way to reveal the block- does the magician take it out of the box, or the spectator? I find that, more often than not, I lay the deck on their hand (so they can feel the weight) and then I remove the block, placing it in their hand. 3) Will my IR get rusty? If you were going to buy a chunk of steel from somewhere, would you go to a junkyard or a jewelry store? for me, the more used, the better. 4) What if I want to keep it shiny? Wipe it down with a silicone cloth, Breakfree, WD-40, etc. after use to clean off the oil from your fingers. 5) Do you need to be strong to work my IR? You can adjust it (how you can adjust a solid block of steel, you ask? That's our secret.) to whatever your strength. 6) I like my IR smooth. Any suggestions? Olive Oil. 7) Is it really examinable? Absolutely! I have given mine out HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of times with zero problem. Now, would I give it to someone and ask them to go for a walk for an hour and come back with it? No, lol. But do I let spectators handle it? Absolutely! 8) What else can I use besides a quarter? Well, we have all decided that I wear my pants too tight, because I can carry mine in my front pocket with zero problems. Others have used cell phone cases and Joshua Jay's Pro Carrier Case with great results! 10) Can IR be performed surrounded? Absolutely! There are no sensitive angles what so ever. In fact, you can invite your spectators to pay close attention to the penetration as it happens. 11) Can a box be reinforced to make it last even longer? Use some Scotch "Magic" tape on the wear points on the outside (yes, outside) of the box and the box will last for a very long time. 12) Do people like IR? Here's something that Jason England just wrote! "Jamie Grant made his mark in the magic world with his superbly crafted “Anything Is Possible” bottles. Many people have put decks of cards into bottles. A few have even offered them for sale as impossible objects. No one has achieved the look of perfection that Jamie gets with his bottles. His cards defy even the closest of scrutiny to find any flaws whatsoever. They really are perfect. With his latest release, Industrial Revelation, Jamie has taken the concept from the old matchbox penetration effect and produced a much larger and more impressive version that will play for larger audiences. Just like his bottles, the end result of all of Jamie’s hard work is perfection. The basic effect is this: the performer shows a box of playing cards, apparently normal except for a slit about an inch long in the center of the box. Any object that will fit in the slit (Jamie uses a simple table knife) is shown to freely slide into and out of the slit. A quarter is also passed through the slit with little effort. After the knife blade or quarter is removed, the spectator is asked to hold out his or her hands. The card box is very cleanly opened and a solid block of brushed steel is dumped out of the box into the spectator’s hands. The block, box, quarter and knife can all be examined. If you’re familiar with the matchbox penetration method, then you already know how this works. Suffice to say, it’s beautifully manufactured and looks great. If you are not familiar with the method, then rest assured you would be fooled. This was always a good effect with a clever method; now it’s a great effect due to the larger format that Jamie has engineered. The skill level required to pull this off is minimal at best. If you can hold a deck of cards you’ll be performing this in no time. The reset cannot be done in front of the spectators, but it is very simple and takes only a few seconds. Highly recommended. ~Jason England" 13) Where can I purchase this wondrous device? http://www.SendWonder.com ___________________________________________________________ Thanks to everyone who contributes to the FAQ! I've got very special (and secret) VIP list that I'm compiling... Your pal, jamie

I'm glad you liked them, They actually turned out way better than I thought they would be. I almost didn't put them up. I really wish I could have taken a video but I got a ton of technical problems with my various recording devices. Thanks again. |

Here's a question for the FAQ (And one I hope I never have to ask)
What happens if a spectator drops my IR? Will it affect the workings?

On 2011-11-02 20:45, Jamie D. Grant wrote: Whoops! … Sorry Jamie and a misunderstanding on my part as I thought your question to me was meant as joke seeing that it was in bold font and that the subject has been discussed so extensively already! lol I’m referring to the post you made on 11/02 and I didn’t see the FAQ post you had made on 10/31 asking me to contribute to the question until today so my apologies in not having taken the time to properly answer it, which of course I would have been more than happy to do. Seeing that this thread is getting close to 50 pages (wow!) I imagine that it’s a good idea to touch upon the most often asked questions every so often and having an FAQ is a great idea. I’m a firm believer that people should take the time to read an entire thread before asking questions that may have already been answered, but at 46 pages (at this time) that is indeed a hell of a lot for anyone to cover. Anyway, you certainly summed it all up quite succinctly. Other than that the only thing I could possibly add is that I only take the time to clean mine with a silicone cloth at the end of the evening after it’s been handled. Whether one decides to use Breakfree, WD-40, or any other kind of oil/lubricant/rust inhibitor (they’ll all do the job nicely) they will of course leave an oily residue on the block which I wipe off with a rag before I take it out to perform it. Nothing more scary than handing a slippery 1½ lb block of solid steel to someone (especially when they are not expecting it)! Speaking of the chance of having someone drop the block I have somewhat of a funny story that happened to me just last night while performing it for a family at a restaurant. Sometimes you get those reactions of silent stunned and puzzled looks when the person feels the weight and then dumps out the block onto a table or into their hand, and at times you’ll get that occasional over the top reaction (hey…who doesn’t love that!). I got the latter from a mother of two children much to the embarrassment of her and her family! The family, consisting of the mother, husband, two children (girls) of about 6 and 9, and what I believe were her mother and father (or in-laws). They had just finished eating, but some of the dishes were still on the table. I performed it my favorite way (so far) built around David Copperfield walking through the Great Wall of China, and the use of two cards (having one folded into thirds and the other having a slot in it). At the end I had the mother place out her hand and gently placed the card box (with the block inside) onto her outstretched hand. First the silent puzzled look at feeling the weight, but when she dumped out the block onto the table and took a moment to look at it and then picking it up for a better look she immediately then shouted out “WTF”! I don’t believe any of the surrounding tables heard her as it wasn’t crowded, but her two children and parents certainly did! One of the children simply sat there gaping at what her mother just said, and a few red faces, well, at least hers and her husband desperately trying to hold back from laughing which eventually he no longer could! Not exactly a family Kodak moment to say the least! Anyway, after the momentary embarrassment and things settled down she handed over the block to her youngest daughter to then pass on back to me. Yes, everyone got a very good look at the block and like I said, the reactions were over the top. However, when the youngest girl had hold of it she dropped it onto a plate that still had some remnants of food on it (spaghetti I believe) and a portion of the dish broke spewing forth a small blob of said sauce onto her face! No harm done and everyone ended up having a very good laugh, including the child, and the only thing I had to do was remove some sauce from the block (in a very important area) when I got home and needless to say it got a very good cleaning and lubrication! Now....if I ever wished that something had been taped this most definitely would have been it! lol
