Mark Wilson is going to be very upset by your post, Brehaut. He is a different person entirely you know. And it is you who needs to explain himself not me. I have followed the history of your posting on this Berglas thread. It is entirely too pat and consistent even before you allegedly received the book. Praise, praise, praise all the time and nary a word of doubt. Unlike other posters it is almost a constant non stop plug for the book. Methinks you are a friend of relative of Kaufman's. Probably a relative since I would imagine that Richard has more of the latter than the former. Every post is a plug for the book and nothing else.
It should be remembered that I have been among wicked people my entire life and can spot other people's wickedness very quickly. I was prepared to allow you the benefit of the doubt but am now reluctant to do so because of your great impertinence. As for Entermagic's WOT site I have investigated and found it to be a load of old cobblers with no validity whatsoever. |

The book is simply stunning. It is a comprehensive examination of David Berglas's approach to performance and has tremendous value for any performer. Having personally experienced him using other people's decks and doing unbelievable things with them, I can only urge all of you to obtain a copy. There are huge sections on achieving many things in many different ways (none of them are knuckle busters and many of the concepts travel to non-card performance); a section on developing your own material; and so much more. The level of production is excellent, the drawings are nicely done. I have not yet had a chance to watch the DVDs, but spent a good part of Saturday and Sunday reading the book. It is up there with Vernon and rightly so.
Best wishes Dr T |

As for the price---the book is extremely well produced and beautiful in appearance. Plus 3 DVDs to boot. I would rather pay $125 for a classic than $40 for a book that I read once and put in the drawer. I can't imagine reading this material and it not making you a better performer. If there is one drawback (and it has been posted elsewhere) I doubt anyone can perform these effects as well as Mr. Berglas. However, we should not try to mimick Mr. Berglas but be the best that we can be. |

I am very happy with my purchase. The book is nicely produced and contains a huge amount of insight into the unconventional methods of a man who is quite simply a magic legend. The level of detail regarding the 'Berglas effect' is significantly more than that in M and M. The parts of the DVDs I have watched are top notch too.

I hate to be a nitpicker, but language is important to me-
How can a book possibly be called a "classic" if it was just published? A "future classic"? Maybe. A "modern classic"? Possibly, but not until its been around for at least a few years. How about "destined to become a classic"? (The actual Berglas effect can certainly be considered a classic, for it has stood the test of time and is an enduring plot. Hopefully the book will likewise endure and become a classic in its own right.) I hear it's very, very good. Bob |

How does this compare to Whisper by Kennedy?
Is it cheaper than Whisper because it is not as good? |

I don't have the Berglas book, but my impression from the reviews was that the Berglas Effects, while spilling the beans, would not be performable overnight unless you were a clone of Berglas, with all his vast knowledge, skill, and background in performance. If I'm wrong about that, I'm willing to stand corrected by someone who has read the book.

I've been working on my ACAAN and variations including The Berglas Effect for over a year. I perform it as one of my regular card pieces for walk-a-round or when someone asks me to show them an effect. With the correct script, psychology and handling it really is the a classic card effect which is hard to beat.

The Berglas Effect, as David does it, requires a lot of practice. A LOT. I think people that have absorbed the methods explained in the book are using it, but wisely don't want to advertise the fact.
And if you don't have the book yet, I'll be reprinting it in a few months at the same price of $140. |

Seems the book (second edition) is now available for pre-order again from Genni Site.
However I've just ordered a Signed First Edition Copy direct from David Berglas himself for just £120 (post free in Uk) I saw this on this weekends Magicweek News Page.. If you look at http://www.magicweek.co.uk in this Saturday 21st March Edition David Berglas himself has a news item and a link to his webpage where you can purchase one of the last few remaining SIGNED FIRST EDITION's of the original book for just £120 (that includes Free Postage in UK) Why wait for the second edition when you can have a Signed First Edition direct from David Berglas himself? The order details are here - http://www.magicweek.co.uk/backissues_05......ects.htm Can't wait to read the book and watch the DVD's.... |
