I really thought this series was great. If you have Netflix and enjoy this type of thing it is really worth the time.

I've watched a few episodes of RD but never quite got into it. Were you aware of the reunion mini-series / movie from 2009?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1500279/ (I was going to mention my favourite Britcoms, but then I realised that it is a longer list than I first thought and I don't want to derail your RD thread.)
Make America Great Again! - Trump in 2020 ... "We're a capitalistic society. I go into business, I don't make it, I go bankrupt. They're not going to bail me out. I've been on welfare and food stamps. Did anyone help me? No." - Craig T. Nelson, actor.

Oh no way to derail this sir. No way. A great Britcom is welcome! It is really the point in spirit if not title.
Yea that was the 8th season I think as they refer to it, I am of the belief that they sort of "Jumped the shark" if you will.

Well, among my faves and restricting myself to relatively recent shows:
- Lead Balloon ("Rick Spleen is a world-weary comedian who ends up doing far too many corporate jobs to pay the bills") - Father Ted - The IT Crowd - Ideal - Benidorm

Yes!
Red Dwarf was the only reason I joined the 'friends of PBS' 12 years ago. I loved that show.

Craig Charles has a radio show if you like Funk and Soul.
Not sure what the rest of the cast are up to these days. Someone actually grabbed and reversed Backwards for the dialog. It's out there if you go looking.

I only watched Red Dwarf up to the time machine episode. I understand it got stranger and more convoluted after that. (I did see the ending of the episode with Kennedy. Wow, just too weird.)

My wife is a big britcom fan. Our favorites were "Red Dwarf" "Father Ted" "Are You Being Served?" "Fawlty Towers" and "Waiting For God."
I always felt if they were going to attempt an American version of "Waiting For God," Bea Arthur would have been good in the lead. Then I remember the producer who told John Cleese they'd "improved" "Fawlty Towers" in bringing it to America by writing out the Basil character! (Which version, oddly enough, starred Bea Arthur as the owner of the inn!)

"Lead Balloon" this week was absolutely fabulous. If you are not watching the series, check it out.

I have only seen a few (like 12) Red Dwarf from the beginning. Tom and I love them! I'd like to buy the later seasons on disc but they are too expensive for me.
I also loved Fawlty Towers although sometimes they can be pretty uncomfortable to watch. I liked "Good Neighbors" as well. Of course I'm a big fan of Dr. Who, being a geek and all. -Mary Mowder |

I always thought Red Dwarf was along the same lines as the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
I love both. Even when they shark the jump. I first learned to make chicken vindaloo from a cooking special with the Red Dwarf cast that was played during a PBS pledge drive. I joined that night. Pledged 200 bucks and got the Red Dwarf t-shirt, mouse pad, coffee cup, a vhs of "smeg-ups" (out-takes) and an episode guide. All of which were lost in the fire.

Brits just put out some funny stuff, outside the Britcom realm. Even dramas have a nice dash of humour in them. Surely you recall the wonderful "House of Cards" with Ian Richardson as Sir. Francis Urquhart.

Nice to see this thread from some Non UKers
Father Ted is a great one to see, anyone like Alan Partridge? (Steve Coogan) it's another of my picks. And Peep Show also. The list could go on but I should stop. Grew up watching Red Dwarf (to keep this slightly on topic) and loved it. There was another show with Rimmer in it, The Brittas Empire where he was a leisure center manager. Kryten was on a show called Scrapheap Challenge (i believe there is a US version also) but not sure what Cat has done, saw him on a few things not much though.

What was the actor's name? Danny John Jules? I'm going to google... Yup, according to his Wikipedia he has been in Blade II, Labyrinth (cool, never knew that,) Little Shop of Horrors, Lock Stock and two Smoking Barrells, and Sucker Punch, among others. I remember seeing Blade II and going, "Wait a minute, is that Cat? Dude! That's Cat!"
