I've got a squisher type effect on the go, all built in wood. I'm considering a few different ways to facilitate the smooth movement of the latgest box from one end of a base to the other. I've considered both wheels and drawer hardware. It needs to be something I can remove the box from for packing.
Any ideas out there?

Just shooting from the hip...
The really nice thing about drawer slides is that they generally have rollers on both sides of the slider, to avoid binding on the track. I wonder if it'd be possible to remove the slider part and install it in a shop-built (and much longer) track, say aluminum channel. One of these on each side of the base. Then build a "drawer base" that attaches to both sliders and rolls along on the track like a drawer. My other thought would have been in-line-skate wheels on a track, but it might tend to bind.

UHMW would probably be quieter than drawer slides. I used either this or Delrin (don't remember which) to make slides for a Modern Art. It machines very well.
How far does the box need to move?

The UHMW is also self-lubricating, I highly recommend it.

So I ended up going with some appliance rollers I found. It's about 1.75 inches wide and they are strong and smooth. They come with a bolt and nut on each one so all I need to do is drill a hole in the table top, flip the wheel upside down and bolt it on wheel side up. The frame that rolls over just gets put on and it rolls.
Because they are bolts, I can buy extras and easily swap them out if I ever had to. *WINNING*
