I know, I was just surprised by your criticism of his commenting.
Speaking of Penn commenting on things and people, and using the F'bomb, if anyone is interested, they should check out his Penn Point on using the F word.

Though I don't think my opinion on the tone of Penn's angry tweet is all that important in the context of the overall themes expressed. Penn also said that he didn't have a problem with her expressing her opinion on flag burning being bad, but it was when she advocated taking the freedoms from others that he had a problem. I can agree with this sentiment, though I do think he went a bit far in how he expressed his reaction. Not so much for the reaction, but for his connection to the pageant in his reaction. I think he was too close to the situation for this to go over well. If he was a casual observer and cussed about her on his Showtime program then it would just be entertainment.

By the way Lobo, I understand what you are saying, in that his response could be considered "out of line," but I do not really think I agree with that.

Or ones that start and end with white stripes, instead of red? Do they constitute flags? And what is desecration? Cutting the flag up? Reassembling it in some disfigured fashion? I could take a flag, cut the stripes cut in half and make them into tubes, cut all the stars section into strips, and stitch them into bands around the bottoms of the tubes, would that be considered a desecrated flag? What about rubbing it up against my nether regions all day long?

And a flag with the wrong stripe combination or the wrong number of stars is not considered a flag. (Disney uses this to get around a clause in the Flag Code. The flag is supposed to be brought in at sunset. Disney flies flags all day and night, only bringing in the one in the Main Sq. near the train station, because all the other "flags" have the wrong number of stars and don't qualify as flags!) Mind you, if you are burning a 49 star flag, or a flag with white stripes on the top and bottom (or a flag with 15 or 17 stripes) while you're technically not really burning a flag, you'd be hard-pressed to explain that to the rabid mob that surrounded you! I remember Playboy ran a letter about a flag desecration case. Seems some hippie was using a flag as a curtain in his van and got busted. One of the charges was that he'd desecrated the flag by punching holes in it to run wire through it to hang it with, except the prosecutor couldn't find the holes to show the judge (the wire had been that thin) The person writing the letter commented that while they were trying to find the holes in the hippie's flag, behind the judge was a large American flag... nailed with 3-penny nails into the wall! Also the Flag Code forbids wearing the flag (or any facemile (sp)) as an article of clothing or decoration. So cops would harass hippies for wearing the flag as a patch on their jeans... while they were wearing flags as patches on the sleeves of their coats! This last part got Abbie Hoffman in trouble when he appeared on television wearing a shirt made out of an American Flag... http://www.thethirdcity.org/blog/big-mik......werless/ I believe he was put on trial for it whereupon his lawyer pointed out that Raquel Welch had produced a poster where she was wearing nothing but a shirt made out of an American Flag and no one had harassed her over that! http://www.amazon.com/Raquel-Welch-12x16......01DLOSJE
