I maintain a list of cold reading resources that you may find of value in this regard.
The essay also addresses this whole "cold reading vs. stock reading" confusion that is so rampant on this board.

Iain's book "AEIOU" is in fact quite practical and wonderful. It is his approach to Psychometry A-Z, done with Richard Webster's approval. It is short and physically tiny. When I got it I thought the publisher made a mistake as I thought a book could not fit in to such a tiny package. Well, it was in there and I like it very much. It is very practical in the real world. If you are looking for lumps of books it isn't for you but if you want to do good personality readings quickly it will get you going fast. It may be the best suggestion so far for your general request.
Here is a link to a discussion of this work... http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......start=30 Doug Dyment's site has many, many wonderful works. This includes what I think is the best buy in readings/mentalism...The Cold Front flash cards for $19. It is a palm reading approach with a script for each part of it. As I have repeated endlessly I have used these exact words thousands of times for very effective readings. It is on flash cards to make them easy to memorize. You have to put some work in to it, but like they say in the military, "Suck it up Nancy". I would also be amiss not to mention Bev Moore's approach to palm reading mentioned above. It will get you started fast. These two approaches, Psychometry A-Z/Iain's "AEIOU" and the two palmistry suggestions will teach you to actually do readings. These approaches also have the advantage of no props, unless you call a hand a prop. |

What about using Q and A scripts as cold reading in performances? I have dynamite mentalism and Jerome Finley Q & A and John riggs the messiah process.
Just trying to figure out how I can incorporate this into my performance. |

Nik,
Whatever you decide to read, when it comes to performance, why not try at first looking for an effect which gives you the opportunity to have a little "try" at some cold reading rather than making the reading the main focus. For example: Have a look at Andy Nyman's "Magician's Graphology" from "Short, Punchy and Mental" (book) or "Get Nyman" (DVD) With this, you'll be basing a reading on what someone has drawn, but I found it a great way to try out some of the techniques. Btw,don't worry, lot of "mentalist" are like you on the Café but it looks like it's a pleague to be beginner and the challenge is to know everything even if you do nothing. Start by the beginning,as I understand where you're, all this material is useless for you right now, too much things and not any basis. As quicknotist said start by find a routine makes place to some cold reading lines. Psychometry A to Z or I prefer the Iain Dufold's variation "IOU" is a good point to start.

A good friend has access to a magic shop? ********. I smelled a torrent in the first post, between the wide range of cold reading books and the partial titles.
Now a magic shop is carrying Jerome's Q & A? He doesn't wholesale to magic shops. I'm done with this thread. |

Several of the titles mentioned are not available in magic shops. Hmmm.

For your sake, don't read this stuff from PDF's, for some reason you can't take the information in properly You can buy them cheaply from Amazon anyway

Ah.
I was wondering why an individual would have a better collection than my local magic society's library. |

These are the last two titles as they appear in the original post. The formatting indicates that these are file names. Were these titles issued as eBooks?
