I did a search in this section on how to do this, and found one link that briefly talks about the size of a silent track, and it also mentioned using Audacity. Is creating a silent track a difficult thing to do using Audacity? I have what is now a dinosaur of a computer, and don't have much room for downloading, plus it is really slow. I've not researched the file size of Audacity much, and thought I'd ask here.
I did do some googling, and found a site: http://www.duramecho.com that has a 32 minute silent track available for downloading, but it was 330MB when uncompressed!! I also searched iTunes and found several silent tracks, but the longest was 5 minutes. Seems like I've read somewhere, or heard in a lecture at a conference about longer silent tracks. I purchased a Maxell iPod remote from Nathan Roberts at a conference, and I am thinking that he provided a CD with a silent track on it, but I have misplaced it. I have tried to contact him, so maybe he will reply. I would like a silent track to put between songs on my iPod, so I don't always have to pause it after a routine if I am not using music.\ Thanks for reading, and for any help you may be able to give me. The file size in Audacity is going to depend on the settings you use when you make the track. It's pretty easy to do. You just go to Generate>Silence.

Why not program the short, 5-minutes long, track into repeat mode?

I used Sonic Forge to make an hour long silent track. I could maybe send it to if you'd like.

Doug,
I made a 10 minute silent track and uploaded it on to my site so you can download it. it is under 10mb. Private message me and I will send you the link. Don't want everyone downloading it and adding to my bandwidth. Brendan |

My 20 minute silence tracks take up 2.4mb. I'm pretty sure that you want the minimum sound quality (since its silence...who's going to know), which is why it is pretty small.

The 20-minute silent track I created in Audacity is 1.6 MB. I've forwarded it to Doug so he wouldn't have to figure out how to do it.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much for all of the replies, I do appreciate it. I have been gone for a couple of days for my son's college orientation, and am just now getting back to posting. As Michael said, he did send one to me, thanks again Michael. Fabio, is that do-able on an iPod Nano? Sorry, I rely on my 12 year old daughter to create my playlists, and do the set up (it's her iPod I'm "borrowing"). She'd probably know, so I can ask her. I really appreciate the feedback from all of you. Doug |
