I am not from a back water town but magic seems to be a more specialised here in the UK compared to countries like America. In the US there seems to be a magic shop in most malls (Houdini's normally) or street corners but here in the UK it is assigned to a shelf or two in a joke shop, fancy dress shop or gadget shop.
Is there any specific clubs, shops or organisation based in the UK I should have a look at. |

Hi there. Magicbox and Alakazam are good stores here in the UK. I do most of my purchases on-line or over the phone, there customer service is exellent and the staff from both stores are knowledgeable and very friendly. The guys I know who visit the stores have gave nothing but praise.

In fact one of the more common complaints of American magicians is the demise of the brick and mortar magic shops where you can step into, get to know local magicians, and learn the ins and outs, as it were. There's not one brick and mortar in my small state of Delaware (at least that I'm aware of) and the closest one to me is Denny and Lee's in Baltimore, a two hour drive for me.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

May I suggest that you try Patrick Page Magic the company set up by Patrick's family after he died. The website address is http://www.patrickpagemagic.co.uk
Try the DVD "Patrick Page Speaks" for starters - a lecture that Patrick gave to magicians in the USA. I am biased as I am Patrick's son in law but there are independent reviews on the website. Please read them. |

Weisszach - the next meeting at the Manchester Circle of Magicians is on Agust 15 and is a hands-on teach in with cards (and probably some other things).

I may join the Manchester circle of magicians it sounds like a great opportunity to get some feedback and learn although I'll be going to uni in London at the end of September so would be rather infrequent attendance wise.

I have moved out of the Manchester area but remain a member. The value for money is unbelievable even if you only get to several meetings per year. The annual subscriptions are only £15 and for that money you get a lot of incredible lecturers. On top of that there are generally at least 100 (friendly) members at each meeting. If you need help on anything there are more than enough people to ask. I know some of the people well who are teaching on Aug 15 and I am sure you will learn things that are useful.
