Not to take this topic off topic....but when did we discover Latex Allergies? when I was growing up (when dinosaurs ruled the earth) I really don't think that there were that many kids who had peanut allergies..and latex allergies.
I'll get off my soap box now. |

Lots of theories on that one, dros. I suspect it's too much cleanliness and sterile environments, which limit our bodies' exposure to things early on, which is how we develop immunities. It's kind of along the same line as doctors who are reluctant to prescribe antibiotics too often for fear of weakening your own immune system.
But what do I know? I'm just a magician. What bugs me is when people with allergies expect the whole world to bend to them. There are entire schools who proclaim themselves to be "peanut free" because a handful of kids have allergies. I understand some can be severe, but ya still gotta operate int he real world eventually, right? Boo hoo, say I. Still, the bottom line is, rules are rules and if we want to work the venues we have to follow them. |

I found this part very interesting "Some people who have latex allergy may also have an allergic response to any of a number of plant products, usually fruits. This is known as the latex-fruit syndrome.[7] Fruits (and seeds) involved in this syndrome include banana, pineapple, avocado, chestnut, kiwi fruit, mango, passionfruit, strawberry, and soy. Some but not all of these fruits contain a form of latex. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America estimates that nearly 6 percent of the United States population have some type of food allergy and up to 4 percent have an allergy to latex.[8] It can also cause reactions from foods touched by latex products in the most severe cases. Some individuals who are highly allergic to latex have had allergic reactions to foods that were handled or prepared by people wearing latex gloves."

Apparently breast feeding and a certain lack of cleanliness in early childhood go a long way towards eliminating alergies. From what I understand sterilising babies bottles is doing our children a great disservice.
But back to the topic. I live adding extras. Storytelling is my favourite. Ireland has a great oral tradition, and I love to keep that alive by showing kids how entertaining a real story can be, if told properly. I have also enjoyed adding puppets to my show. I would say that my show now is a third puppets, a quarter stories, and the rest magic. And I end my birthday show with a balloon animal for eveyrone.
