The uproar is still not yet in full swing. I can't help but feel that it's going to be "Y2K" all over again except maybe more like Y2K on steroids this time around. How many end of the world in 2012 believers do we have and where should we go, what should we do? When do we panic??? Or do we just wait and re-visit this next year?

I say we wait and revisit this Dec 22nd next year.

I like Penn and Teller's deal- they'll send you money now, if you sign over everything you own to them, effective Dec 22, 2012.
Anyway, we already went through this in May. As far as fervent belief systems go, there's more Christians around than there are ancient Mayans, and they were wrong, too.

When I was a kid (about 1956) my family couldn't get a camp site at a state park because it was full of Jehovah's witnesses. They were there to celebrate the end of the world, and it did not happen that year. Perhaps the earth will open and swallow us all up this year. LOL

Among the many distinctions between Y2K and 2012, the two operative ones I think are:
1. Y2K had an-at-least plausible factual basis. Although the magnitude of the problem, the impact of the consequences, and the difficulty of the solution might have been a bit overblown, there probably was at least a legitimate problem in various systems. On the other hand, 2012 appears to be based on... wait, what is it based on again? 2. Even if you believe the 2012 nonsense, isn't the point that you're pretty much doomed anyway? For Y2K, there was at least something you could do to weather the storm. Stock up on water, canned goods, and bullets, and ride it out until civilization is restored. In 2012, the world is just going to explode or something, regardless of what you do. You can't prepare for it. So this might mean less frenzy, but a bigger party. |

It's the end of the world as we know it
Though not as dire as this site makes them out to be http://www.solar-storm-warning.com/ The upcoming increse of solar storms due in 2012 could cause some major problems. The last time there was solar activity of this magnitude it knocked out Telegraphs. Hard to tell what effect it will have on the electric grid. Or even if we will get hit by a stoerm.

It's an omen! I'm gonna' sing the doom song now! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMbQNu-d7QU

The world will end March 21, 3012 because I said so. End of story. That solves the 2012 problem now doesn't it?;)
