We also have a CAST of other volunteers in both planning and day of things. It's basically the same group that has been putting this thing together for the last several years. Hope to see you there. Check out the facebook page and become a fan. I think I will start a new thread on here on the Café with our announcements very soon, hopefully to clear up any confusion. |

Registrations will probably go out this Friday via e-mail so that people do not worry about the Convention not happening. We will also post all forms, the Reg. Form, the Auction Submission Form, and Dealer Request form on the Facebook page.
We may not have all the contracts signed by Friday, but we will send the Reg's out and update everybody as the acts become official (same with dealers). There are 2-3 more acts (top, top acts I may add) that will be added to the line-up as well as some other surprises. Again, just running a little later this year but we absolutely promise you a slam, bang, hi-quality convention once again. Mike

Hi Al,
Had to pipe up here. Lennart Green at Metro-Magic this year is unknown talent? I highly, highly disagree. But, I digress. Kevin Quote: On 2011-08-15 12:27, Al Angello wrote: |

I went to the 06 and 07 Metro Magic Conventions. I had a good time there, but at the 07 one, a couple of the show acts were not so good, I remember one of them flashing his entire act. Ok, not enough for me to not continue going, but the next year the price nearly doubled, without much changing.
I find Kutztown to be a tremendous value. Absolutely top notch performers and lecturers, an auction, diner, a GREAT stage show. I hardly had time to check out the dealers last year, there was so much going on.

Hi Matthew,
Totally understand. All conventions are businesses at the end of the day- the reality is they are businesses of love and not of profit. The key to remember here is that magic conventions are next to impossible to run nowadays, as Ryan stated, which is why they are getting scarcer and scarcer. Each one has their target audience that they cater to and all are awesome endeavours, imho. That being said, I'm curious- the lineup at Metro-Magic in 2007 was- Bev Bergereon, Paul Hallas, Harry Monti, Eric Jones, Bob Sheets, Joe Rindfleisch and David Corsaro. Not a shabby lineup.... I wonder which two flashed their entire act?!? Bottom line- we all need to remember convention organizers do it for the love, not any profit. The days of a convention being hugely profitable for their respective organizers, regardless of market niche and target audience, are long long gone. It was 07 and 08, I got confused. The one where the performer flashed was in 2008. I don't think I'm in a position to post his name. I do remember when he left the room, almost everyone went 'huh?' It was like an unintentional lecture.

I never heard of Lennert Green, and if they want my $100 they are going to have to get someone that I have heard of. I traveled up the New Jersey Turnpike several times to meet Steve Dushack, and Mickey Silver. They have not had anyone of that caliber in 5 or so years. I do not spend my entertainment dollar frivilously.

Al,
In the past 5 years, Metro-Magic has had: Johnny Ace Palmer, Tony Clark, David Roth, Paul Green, Daryl, Mike Gallo, Richard Sanders, Bill Abbott, and my personal favorite, Bill Wisch This is in addition to Steve Dushek and Mickey Silver and many, many others. If you haven't heard of those guys, then with all due respect, you need to get out more my friend. You should also check out Lennart Green on Youtube- amazing magician and I can't wait to meet him in October. I'll be flying out from Silicon Valley, as per usual. Matt,
Doesn't matter anyway; I wouldn't want to know as I wouldn't call someone out for having a bad day. We all have them. The broader point I was trying to make was that if a performer flashes, it has nothing to do with the quality of the venue or convention. It simply means the performer had a bad day/performance. Period. Kevin Quote: On 2011-08-17 23:09, Matthew W wrote: |

I never said it did matter. The main reason I stopped attending was the price doubling. For half the price I got to see Fielding West, Johnny Thompson, and Kevin James. Second, it is only closeup magic. The only closeup I do is when I sell Svengali decks.
Now, this thread is about Kutztown.

Matt,
You are correct, it is about Kutztown, so keep it on topic. Who brought up Metro-Magic first criticizing its price and quality of talent? Hmmm... a hint, wasn't me. I rarely come onto the forums Kevin Quote: On 2011-08-18 02:16, Matthew W wrote: |

Which escalated into unnecessary banter on price and "unknown" talent that I'm not going to merely go unresponded to. I was merely pointing out that Metro has had some of the best close-up magicians in the world. And price-wise, sometimes you get what you pay for
Now, keep it on topic This is about Kutztown after all. Quote: On 2011-08-18 02:41, Matthew W wrote: |
