Why is Ted spelled with one D and Todd with two? Why not Tedd and Tod? And if Ted is short for Theodore, what is Todd short for? Dorothee? And what kind of names are Theodore and Dorothee? They aren't Biblical names, are they? They sound pagan to me.
And why are there two Fs in my own name? The second F is redundant. And why didn't my parents name me Jefferey or Jefferson or even (shudder!) Geoffrey? The name on my birth certificate is simply "Jeff". What were they thinking? And did I really learn about Maria Osawa at the Magic Café? And if Lady Diana was a adulteress, how could she blame her failed marriage on her husband's adultery? These are things that keep me awake at night. Your mileage might differ. It's a strange world. |

And why isn't abbreviation a shorter word?
Does the little mermaid wear an algebra? Speaking of redundant letters, my name's Glenn. My own (extended) family often forgets the second 'n,' yet manage to spell my wife's name, Theresa Recchia (maiden name) right.

Why was my family name spelled "Mollet" in both Spain and France, and where did it originate?
Why was it also "Mollett" in France. Why is it pronounced so many ways. Why am I asking YOU?

In the non-fiction book, "Bobby Fischer vs. the Rest of the World", a main character, an employee of Loftleider Airlines (Iceland's airline) is named Tedd Hope.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

My first name is Craig. So, why have so many people always called me Greg? And why did my grand mother always put an "e" on the end of my name? Those are only the problems with the first name. I won't even go into the last.

I've actually seen "Craig" written "Craigg".
What in the heck does that mean? |

I want to know who started spelling it; Eddy? First off, my name is Ed, I really don't like Eddie. (There are personal reasons dealing with a deranged sister and a family that seemed to think; "Ignore her and she'll stop" was a legitimate response) The only person who calls me that is my wife. But I'm really confused about Eddy.

One of my best longtime friends is a guy named Jason...we used to go to this Little Caesar's Pizza place in Anaheim, and the counter people would always ask for the spelling of the name of the person who ordered. Not because they misheard, or might have misheard, either, because they'd repeat the name, i.e. "Dave?" "Right." "How do you spell that?"
After a while, Jason got bored, or tired of it, or something, so he started having fun with it. The first time he was asked, very seriously, he said, "J-A-Q-S-O-N. The 'Q' is silent." Another time, he wouldn't answer. He said something like, "I don't care, man...spell it any way you can read it; all you have to do is say it out loud when the pizza's ready." Remind me to tell you about the time the Girl Scouts came over when he was stoned, and he bought 100 boxes of Thin Mints.
