"The Ten Cannots"
Majoring in the Minors takes us away from Majoring in the Majors. Working on The List of Cans is the better investment. The list was authored by William Boetcker, a minister and motivational speaker born in the late 20th century. Read them for yourself and see if you don't agree. "The Ten Cannots" • You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. • You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. • You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich. • You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. • You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence. • You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. • You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. • You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. • You cannot establish security on borrowed money. • You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves. I disagree with most of them, but they're clever.

With most of them? Curious I am now.
Which ones do you disagree with, and how are they wrong?

I think I agree with most, if not all, but that is just after a first pass.

While those are very good points, they're a bit one-sided. Just for balance may I add:
1. You can not build a foundation of strength on the backs of the weak. I've just got the one.

They forgot the most important one
You cannot bring about real change to complex problems with an array of heavily biased and poorly worded platitiudes. You can bring about prosperity yet not promote thrift. You can strengthen the weak without weakening the strong. You can help the poor yet not destroy the rich. You can further the brotherhood of man yet not incite class hatred. You can build character and courage yet not take away man's initiative and independence. You can help small men yet not tear down big men. You can lift the wage earner yet not pull down the wage payer. You can keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. You can establish security on borrowed money. You can help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves. Life is not a black and white\either or proposition.

Hi Bob,
I agree, with the exception of the second one. I think that's why the UN was needed. Cheers! Chrystal |

Funny, I have written down a list of exactly who would respond to this thread, and how. Some still yet to check in but funny how it runs EXACTLY the same every time. I am not sure if it is pathetic or predictable only. I will let you know. It is fun though. Next time you see a thread like this just write down who you think will say wyat. My arguement by number idea really do make a lot of sense.

Yep that's what I was thinking.
