I just ordered this from Hocus-Pocus and was wondering if anyone has it yet and what they think.

As soon as it shows up I will. I talked to Paul at Hocus-Pocus and he said there will only be 26 made and already like 19 have been sold. The first group of 6 sold out right away and he talked the man making them and ordered the final 20 and like 13 of them were sold when I ordered. But I will review it for sure and let you guys know.

UPDATE! I called Hocus-Pocus and talked to Paul and he told me my boxes are completed and have been sent to him and he in turn will send mine to me as soon as they are in. I really can't wait to get my hands on these. I will post a review when they arrive. I'd be curious to hear from anyone on here who already got theirs. I believe 6 were sent to their homes last week.

For a minute, I thought you were talking about the version from Gene Anderson, as seen in his lecture. It requires that you be good at building props, though.

Thanks Alan. This is different. This one can be found on the Hocus-Pocus website. There is a video clip as well. It looks very nice and to be honest I'm really looking forward to receiving it. I can only dream about being good at building props! I think I have 5 thumbs!

For a minute I thought you were talking about the one that Martin Lewis uses (and shows how to build on his Video). It takes almost no skills at all to make.

I received mine today and I think it was a real bargain. It worked exactly as I thought it would and I am very pleased with it. It even included a prop that I didn't expect to be included! I did have to dust and polish the boxes a little as they were a little "workshoppy". By the way, I attached 4 narrow strips of black foam-core board to the inside base of the large box for "peace of mind" - purchasers will understand this. It really is an impressive display.

Thanks Allan,
I just got notified by UPS that mine is on the way and will be here tomorrow. I really am excited about this one. I already know the workings but I love the idea of I t being used in these types of boxes because of the nature of my routine that I will use this for it is perfect. So off to bed I go so tomorrow will get here quicker. Btw Allan did you know that only 26 of these were made? Anyway thanks for the before hand tip---I believe I know what the "Peace of mind" was referring to. Good magic to all, Eric |

You're welcome, Eric!
Yes I did know that - I got one of the first 6; that's why it arrived in Australia before yours. Allan |

Well my friends the wait is OVER! And I will tell you right now this is fantastic! Allan the extra gimmick really threw me as I was wondering what I would use. What a great surprise. I almost PM'd you when I read that in your post but decided to be surprised---I'm glad I waited. Man this alone has made me so glad I joined the Hocus-Pocus mailing list. I would have missed this gem all together. The chests look old and work perfectly. I talked to Paul at Hocus-Pocus and he told me he has sold all the chests and he does not believe anymore will be made. that's a shame as these are nice but I guess there are reasons only so many are made. I'm looking forward to using this.

Thanks Eric. You're one of the lucky ones. I knew I should have nabbed this when I had the chance.

Wizard of Oz,
I know it would be a selfish attitude to hope no more will be made but I've never been selfish especially when it comes to magic props and I honestly mean it when I say I hope he builds more of these so everyone can have one. They are really very nice. I've tried to figure why only 26 made? Especially with the response Paul got on the orders? Maybe these were the only trunks he could find? But who knows maybe more may come. In the mean time if by chance one comes up on the "For sale" posts---get it. I actually watched the video for a couple of days and almost passed (I don't know why) on it. I'm glad I called. You know how some props have that "magical" feel to them? Like an old magic book that only had a few copies made? This is the feel you get when you look at this. I have a glass magic hutch and I know when I place this in there people who visit will ask about it. I'm just very pleased with this purchase and I know you guys above all others know how great of a feeling that is. Good magic to all, Eric |

I was going to ask you how you intended to carry this from show to show, but after reading your last post, I see you will not be performing it in any shows. To bad.
I don't have a glass case to display what I buy, so I guess I don't have to worry about missing out on this one. |

Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean I would not use it. I will a lot. I'm storing it only in my glass case. I have it in the living room and sometimes entertain guests with magic as we visit. I will transport it in the back seat of my car to shows. I'm a firm believer in using my effects---to me it makes the props that much more personal. Yes it will be used.

BTW a glass case is nice to store your displayable magic props. It lets people look without touching. When you have people visiting you for the first time it is a great ice-breaker and opens the door for a nice discussion about magic without feeling like you may be pushing the topic down their throats. I let my guests ask about the items in the hutch and I look to see if they are interested in perhaps seeing an effect or two. So far it has been a nice edition for our home.

You know while on this subject I was wondering do you guys have a piece of magic/mentalism that you like to display as a conversation piece? I'd be curious to hear what you use (if anything).
Thanks, Good magic to all, Eric |

I used to keep a Zig Zag in my apartment for folks to hang their jackets in. Charles Reynolds had an antique Mummy Case.

Wow! Now that's what I call "Home decor". I used to have a nice Sub-trunk that doubled as a coffee table years ago. It got stolen from storage when I moved up North for a few years.
