Hmm, I wonder. Last stunt was in the middle of prime time and it had the worst TV ratings any Blaine special had. I bet TLC will buy the rights because ABC doesn't want to lose money on it.

Da5id I have seen Blaine a bunch of times. The last time was at the start of the year at his party. He has definitely put on weight since then. Harmony Korine was with him when I saw him last. Harmony is a cool guy as well. They were both eating Kebabs, fatty food.

As far as ABC not wanting to lose money, word on the street is that they have already signed him for 4 more television deals. He does have a following.

Harmony is not cool in my book. He takes advantage of
people who have no defense against it. If you saw Gummo, you saw the girl that shaved her eyebrows... that was an on the spot thing... improvised into the script to make the scene more freakish. In fact much of Gummo was done this way, not following the script, which is why it has much less plot than the original script he wrote. What you didn't see, what the production co. wouldn’t allow in the movie were things like the idiot (in the true sense of the meaning) missing arms and legs, with imbeciles (smarter than an idiot, but not by much) as parents bathing him with a hose while he was propped up on a chair on his front porch. This was of course way outside the bounds of decency and so did not appear in the film, but Korine kept the film for his personal viewing. I don't find anything about Harmony Korine the least bit cool.

HiveMind, I have never seen 'Gummo' and only seen part of 'Kids' so I can't really give an opinion on his films. When I said Harmony was 'cool', I meant that when I met him he seemed like a nice guy, not in the sense I thought he was cool. We sat and ate lunch and laughed about stuff. He came across as a down to earth guy. Same with the times I have met David. I have met many celebrities while doing close-up in West-End clubs and various film premieres. Some of them are the most uptight, bigheaded, insecure people I have ever met. I won’t name anyone, but a really felt like slapping one or two of them. Harmony and Dave weren't like that.
You don't like his films. A lot of people do. He is recognized as a good director. You say Harmony kept some piece of footage for his personal viewing. Did he tell you this? Or did you read it somewhere? Because you really cannot believe anything you read anymore. About 'indecent' footage, maybe you should attack the kid’s parents before the man that filmed it. They let him film it, probably for money. Watching stuff like that makes people feel uneasy. Maybe that is what he was trying to do, because these people exist in real life and that is hard to accept. Same thing with the film 'Kids', some people were outraged at this film saying it shouldn't have been released etc. But I know that the picture of life painted in that film matches stuff that I have experienced myself. I was at a 'Hells Angels' party the other night and saw parents letting their 13-year-old son and his girlfriend get drunk. But society likes to sweep all this stuff under the carpet, 'out of sight out of mind'. People like Harmony force people to deal with it. Sorry I am ranting... Harmony seemed like a nice guy is what I meant. You took my post completely the wrong way. |

I don't want to get off the topic here so I will just
say that there are many illusions surrounding Harmony Korine, and not all of them have anything to do with David Blaine. I will say that I spent 2 months with him and he couldn't maintain those illusions all the time. I am not disturbed by the images he presents, but how he gets what he wants.
