I picked up a Kindle e-reader yesterday and to my surprise found that I could that I could add to it anything in PDF format.
This now means that my entire library of ebooks is portable for easy reference. It probably works for other e-readers too. Just thought I'd mention. Best to all Gerry

I read that the Kindle doesn't handle pdfs well, so I've just bought a Sony (pocket)reader, which supports pdf reflow. I occasionally have to change font size when a page includes a table, but otherwise it's fine.

You might say reality is the result of complex negotiations between the observer and the observed. But that is simply a point of view.

I can't read some Pdfs on my kindle. If the PDF is text only then I convert it to a text file and that works. However for just PDFs it does not always work well.

Yeah I was going to get one, but due to hearing problems with reading PDF files I didn't bother, so which one would people recommend for pdf files?, I struggle to read them properly on my laptop which is a shame I have some great stuff on pdf, a book reader would be a great asset.
Thanks Dean |

The I pad does pdf's very well, plus a ton of other options and apps, but there is a price difference .

I also have the Sony Nook.
The advantage is you can drag and drop your pdf files directly. The disadvantage is the limited size of the text. |

I have a first generation Kindle, it does not support PDFs unless you convert them (which works well). I use my Ipad for PDF ebooks.

The Kindle 3 works fine for most pdf's. Those that were produced with overly large fonts do, however, create some ease of reading problems.

I have been using my Kindle 3rd generation to read pdf's for quite a while and it's great.
More recently I found this great software: http://calibre-ebook.com/ . You can convert the pdf's to MOBI and I've to say, it's much better that way (Just don't forget to ask the rights to do so from the pdf author!) Basically kindle with mobi behaves almost like amazon's native format. |

Yeah I looked at a kindle today on the internet the 3rd generation one , and didn't think the pdf reader looked that good I think I would struggle to read most of my texts, but then I found out that you could convert them , some websites suggested cropping the pdfs which I felt was very time consuming for the amount of books I have in a pdf format.
But this software Calibre seems to do the job for you, which looks great Thanks Dean |

If you have an iPad and a DropBox account (free), you can upload any .pdf files and then download them to your iPad with an app called GoodReader, which you can then use to read them. The app supports folders so you can arrange your library any way you like.

For some complex pdf's you might need to do some tweaking (only when there are weird page numbers, some headers or footers, images surrounded by text) but that only happened a couple of times (I have tested with several pdf's so far).
A great advantage of using Calibre is that the software converts the pdf first to HTML as an intermediary format which you can edit in order to add/remove features. This basically means that you're able to configure the outcome of your ebook any way you want (with the proper license from the author). |
