I tried resurrecting on old thread, but it didn't get any action, so I am trying a new thread.
It is now 7 years beyond the revelation of the Sub Trunk. Has this effect truly become totally obsolete? has the passage of time given the magic community a new batch of people who have never heard of the illusion, or heard of the public reveal? I have a passion fro classic effects and methods, and wonder if it is safe to try this one out occasionally as a tribute to where the whole thing started.

The masked morn revealed so much more than that.
The night after he showed the Linking Rings on national TV I performed them as usual. It's up to the performer to make anything entertaining.. |

The sub trunk is as relevant today as it ever was. We see these type effects every day, but most people very rarely see a magician - especially live. A lot of young kids I perform for have never seen a magician. If you're considering putting it in your show - go for it. Listen for the comments after the show.

And when the masked magician revealed it... It wasn't even the way a real trunk is done from what I saw. I still do it. And did the Pendragons (while they were together) ever stop? No! It's a great piece of magic and it's all about what the magician does with it.

Just because something is exposed, doesn't mean that anyone other than some 14 year olds who never get off the internet know it. The vast majority of audiences out there do not know how it is done, and even if they did, they recognize it only from the way it was performed in the exposure. With a new presentation, most people don't recognize such illusions. I know several illusions that are basically the same in their working, but each is presented differently and the public perceives them all as different tricks.
I, not long ago, had a 14yr ish old who had viewed many exposures on the net try to tell me how I did my cup and balls routine. He did know the basic cups and balls routine, but had no clue of what I was doing. I simply asked him, well if you know how it is done, do it for me. He couldn't and in fact the more he tried the more he confused himself. They can't expose everything, and we as magicians tend to get locked into the idea that once someone other than our little close net group knows the secret that it is no longer useable. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I used to tell kids, "I know how a piano works but that doesn't mean I can play one"

As I read this thread, it piqued my curiosity as to why this sounded familiar, so I decided to check this video out. As I was watching, it occurred to me that I had seen this very show, albeit when I was just 12 years old in 1997 (when it first aired). I saw the secret to how many of these illusions were performed (LONG before I was into magic at all), and now watching it fresh for the first time in over a decade, I realized I had completely forgotten (and since had to re-learn) how many of these illusions work (since getting into magic).
I am certain I'm not the only one who has seen these specials, only to let the memory slip away and be replaced by more important information |

Even though it may have been revealed it is an amazing stage piece. I cannot wait to one day perform it.
