I see that Ring of truth still has a dedicated fan club (there is a recent post about it). If you perform in real situations, you could take a look to Portia's portrait, a routine I published on the last issue of Genii (July, 2011). Three people instead of two, and a quite misleading add-on (chests instead of hands).
I'm very curious to know how it works for you -to me, I perform in northern Italy, it does fine. Every critical opinion is welcome.

Check it out!
Or at least buy the current issue, maybe you will become a subscriber I think it is a great alternative to use when you can have props and also use a third assistant. I originally worked up banachecks routine because it used only a ring. Now it can be a full blown routine! Nice routine! Danyel |

Thank you very much, Lior. Very happy you appreciated that.
Nice words, MacIrish, thanks a lot. Props issue: well, you can also do it almost impromptu, in a less serious manner, should the need arise: if you have with you three small manila envelopes, you can simply draw three chests on them (possibly joking about that), and joking even more when you cut out with a pair of scissors the mugshot of the local celebrity from the local tabloid, and use it as the portrait of Portia...

Yes sounds good. I'm currently looking up the cheapest UK supplier for one copy.
Is it available in pdf anywhere or do they only do a printed version?

Also because I'm already working on - alternate presentations for the original Portia; - a couple of improvements, of a sequential nature (I mean: each of whose more complex than the preceding one). The last one will transform it in a very different routine, and -I hope- a very, very powerful one (for this last one, props will be needed). I'm receiving advices from a well respected and expert Colleague, whose name for the time being I will keep reserved.

Daniele's routine is very, very clever. However, I'm afraid that the logic tree may be just too complicated for most performers actually to use, although I have no doubt it could be successfully presented after much practice and experience. The presentation is indeed excellent!
Of course, a gimmicked photo and/or chest would make the whole illusion child's play. I'm sure most of you can imagine numerous ways of accomplishing it that way, since the three spectators are actually doing something (placing a photo into a chest). If I were to do this in front of one of Daniele's so-called "competent" audiences, I would use one of my sneaky methods, but make it appear I'm using a logical method, obviously leaving out a critical part of what makes the logical method work. For example, I would do it as Daniele suggests, but I would NOT have the three Ss verbally answer--they would only answer IN THEIR MINDS! That should make any audience of "competents" feel quite incompetent! I'm afraid that, without a lot of practice and even pen and pencil, I myself would not be able to find St. Peter's gate if the Devil were at the fork of three roads, instead of two! Thanks again to Daniele for his kind generosity in sharing his routine. CM

Thanks, Chris.
For a couple of considerations, I just answered you in PM. Your suggestions are very intriguing indeed. I dissent only about one point: to manage it onstage is really much easier than reading it on paper, believe me. (Or, better: don'believe me, give it a try... 8) )

Hi Daniele,
I will answer your questions privately, but the other concern I have involves apparently intelligent ADULTS who can mess up even very well-explained instructions. Thank you again for sharing this very interesting routine. CM

Yeah, Chris. I share this concern: it seems the most important, to me.
Otherwise intelligent adults... yep: when we are put in a regressive situation, one that brings us to parent-child rules of social relation, we all are somehow mind-numbed. Here you have it all: being there talking with a complete stranger, while asked to do something fictitious as choosing an identity and then behaving accordingly by possibly lying -this is the most difficult part. We not only ask them to be dependent (i.e., to follow our instructions, and only those), but also to mistify in answering (for the liars) identity and actions -even those of the other two! (Memory issues here are great...). And this all in front of an audience... No wonder they are dumbfounded. This is precisely why I stress so much the necessity of being even redundant, in our instructions.
