I like the idea of this immensely. There is a problem, related to performance theory and practice. One of the performance conventions in the field of magic, is the structure of expository writing. You tell people what you're going to do, do it, and then tell them what you did, while asking for applause.
It's a habit. It's just the way it's done. It's something that's done without ever thinking about it or questioning it. That's what a habit is. But it gets in the way of good storytelling. If, for example, the hamster cage is present, everything else becomes a forgone conclusion. So the problem is to tell the story in such a way that it unfolds, each detail a new discovery. We all understand the delight we take, in a moment of discovery. A piece of paper is on the table, and footprints show up on it...this is a discovery. Where do the prints lead? What happens from THAT discovery? This is good storytelling. That a dead pet might show up is beautiful in it's ability to touch the heart. But if you announce it ahead of time, why bother with the rest of the story?

Cheers guys...
it was just an idea I had that was all, I'm very visually driven so most of my ideas play out like little films in my head before anything else happens...usually 3rd person too... I would say that noise would be a subtle but very powerful part of an animal seance...a woof or a bark or a chirping...scratching and running, jangling of a bell in a cage or round the neck... and yes, very emotionally driven too...but maybe as a form of release for those who never got to say goodbye...

In theory,I have a way to make the "impression" of prints in sand. But it would have to be different from a dog to cat. Why, would there be reason for sand ?
Practical ??? I like the ideal, but would it start to look like a flea circus ? Would you be able to give an explanation of how a animal could tell you things to relay,as an explanation? I am not against it,just trying to think of it from several angles ! When you make something move would it look real...the watermellon guy did the thing where the invisible dog(or something) went up a ladder, bounced on a diving board and splashed when it hit the water!

using the same methodology as we would to say, make a bell move, or to have an object be picked up and moved...but instead, using paw prints... imagine a circular table, powdered with a suitable substance...during the seance people could maybe hear a small bell being jingle-jangled, an odour in the air...lighting a candle reveals little paw prints coming out from the centre of the table towards a member of the seance, who has lost pet cat or dog... Just trying to figure a suitable substance, and way to make paw-prints appear to the sitter. All I said I have a theory that would work with sand to produce prints! It was a suggestion,on how could be done. I would never make someones lost pet come back, I would make a pet of somebody's. If I had someone come back from the other side,it would not be a lost family member to the setter! To much emotion! Sorry did not read the salt, powder or talc on first post !!! Don't think it was mentioned !

How could you make this work with exotic pets such as tarantulas and snakes? Or would you pretty much limit presentations to dogs, cats and birds?

Sylvia Brown, has a little book that ties in with the animals from the Medium side!
It is like a little 5x5 picture book with about one line per page, under different animals on each page.'Horses.cats,dogs,birds and others' this is true,I saw it at a 'Library' book sale Saturday!
