Possibly a single end boiler with the sluice gate open.
Or the Millenium Falcon.

Wow, what's "single end boiler"? And a "sluice gate"?

Coal fired ships boilers where round shaped canisters, at the front end there was a small gate to rake out the slag that would form from the burning coal to make room for fresh coal, which the boilers need to keep working. As seen in the wreckage of the Titanic, these boilers look somewhat similar to the image on the sonar. This could be a boiler that landed on the ocean floor 'face up' displaying the open door. Now, this is just a guess, but that's what it reminds me of. This type of boiler was around for years and even wooden hulled ships would have had them and this could be all that remains of a shipwreck.

Way back in the 70s, there was a magazine called Official UFO, I was dumb kid and bought one. There was an article about Star wars that claimed that aliens gave George Lucas the idea because it really happened (A long time ago in a galaxy...), and that the evidence was a field of debris around one of the planets in our system (Can't remember which one, its been over 30 years now) that was actually the exploded death star...
I'm not making this up.
If this article was telling the truth - and it could have been because the magazine was 'official', then why not the Falcon resting on our ocean floor after a lengthy career fighting evil and a wee bit of smuggling?

I remember Asimov's had a story about a film director making a film of alien contact to finance the rebuilding of an alien mothership which he ended up using as a miniature in his film (The aliens were REALLY tiny).

I hope someone cares enough to investigate this further. I mean, what if?

It's the Millenium Falcon?

Why should it surprise anyone if it IS the Millenium Falcon? It had to go SOMEWHERE after filming wrapped, and I don't remember seeing it on eBay...
