Am I the only one who think that it´s quite "funny" to ask what is the best mentalism card effect or what is the best way to open your act etc...? I don´t follow this forum every day so, I might be wrong but are we discussing real issues here? I mean in my opinion most important thing in mentalism is YOU and your persona. Ofcourse we can talk about what is the best effect for this and that situation but I think we need more discussion about how to create your persona, how to choose routines that fits to your persona and how to build a whole show from these pieces. Example Bob Cassidy writes here a lot of good things about these topics but I feel that most of us does not really understand what he´s trying to say(?). Am I totally wrong?

You'll find that those particular questions are asked be either people new to mentalism of magicians wanting to either add a small mentalism effect or make the transition .Either way its an open invitation to flaming .Seek and ye shall find is my motto ,asking outright isn't the best way ,however a few on here like to show thier knowledge off to all and sundry .

What drives me crazy is when people ask for a link...or they reckon they can't find it online... yet everytime I go to google and type in the most basic of terms, I find it straight away...gggrrrrrr....makes me fume!

There are a lot of threads on cards and mentalism in the penny thread Pete. I think if a keyword search of all the threads was conducted, BCS and I.D. would come in 1 and 2. I may be wrong, but I doubt it. PS: I really did not answer him, just pointed out a fact. Decomposing

It's a silly question to ask someone else what is the "best" of this and that. But, in truth, it's what we all are searching for... the best... in magic effects, routines, presentations and in ourselves. However, it's the search for the best that produces the answer that finally becomes clear and visible only to you.
When I started out as a computer programmer, I ran into the question all the time- which is best, Mac or PC? The answer given by others (I would never answer the question outright myself, but I always answered with another question) invariably depended on which computer system they had started with. If they worked on a PC, that was the best. If they worked on a Mac, that was the best. None of them had worked on both systems (as I had to do) so none of them were really capable of answering the question honestly. Applied to magic, you notice that those "best" questions always get answered by people stating "what they do" as being the best. That's why I say it is a waste of time to even ask the question. If you want to know what is "best" for you, you need to try everything, watch lots of performances by others, perform with those solution that seem compatible with your style, and eventually you will find what is "best" for you. But don't then come back to a forum and announce that what is "best" for you is best for everyone, end of discussion. If you want to be helpful, encourge the questioners to go on a quest of their own to discover what is best for themselves. Human nature being what it is, this won't work, but you get credit for trying.
