Hi!
Do you hide your tattoos if you have one when strolling or doing close up? Do you consider a tattoo (Visible... arm, neck, hand etc) a fact of matter at the time that the client choose you for the job? Thanks for the info. -H

To me they can be a distraction. When I see a performer with a sleeve I start to focus on the tats rather than the magic and as a result I miss a lot.
After a while I stop looking at the tat and don't notice it anymore. But tats are becoming more and more acceptable in society. Check out the TV shows. I have a couple of them but they are not in normally visible locations.
I am getting so tired of slitting the throats of people who say that I am a violent psychopath.

I don't have any but if I did I would probably hide them - which probably explains why I don't have any.

If I had one (which I don't), it would likely be hidden. A friend of mine out here go the words "NOTHING UP MY SLEEVE" tattooed on his inside upper arm so he can tell people that he has nothing up my sleeve and then he can roll up his sleeve to prove it. Kinda fun...

It depends...if you want to be hired by corporate clients or even kids shows, HIDE THEM. If you don't then it doesn't really matter.

Or you could be like Reed McClintock and use the tats in your performance

A friend of mine had "Queen of Clubs" tattooed on the inside of his arm to complete a card effect. THAT'S dedication...

I've got 4, all hidden by my attire. I am now incorporating one into an effect though actually.

A friend of mine spent quite a bit of $$ and got a full color tattoo (elbow to shoulder) of a wizard looking at the 8 of spades in a crystal ball. Now 25 years later, he no longer does the trick so he just has a faded ugly tattoo.

I was considering getting another tattoo soon, a friend designed a nice "magic" design which I intend to have down my inner forearm. It will be my first tattoo on show. I had actually wondered if this would affect me in a table hopping situation. I think at my current age its not that strange to see, but as I get older it may become more of an issue. Time will tell.

I proudly display mine, use one in an effect.

I have 2. They are on each forearm and are easily hidden if I so choose. However, they are both related to magic and I got them to display them. I think it's a bit cheesy to have the name of a card. One of mine is a silouhette of Vernon. THAT gets a lot of attention, from laymen and magicians.

I think the responses would be 50-50. I have many friends who would be turned off by the sight of a tattoo and instantly assume things about you that are most likely not true. However, I also have other friends who would think it was cool (but again, that may be distracting to the magic). I think you'll find that more older people will have a problem with it than younger people. If appealing to the widest range of clients is the most important goal for you, I'd say don't display your tattoos.

It depends on the venue. There is one restaurant in town that would not hire someone without tattoos. They even give customers a discount for getting their logo tattoo.

Nothing would get done at all, if man waited so long that no one could find fault with it.

I don't hire people who are "heavily" tatooed. My clientele are mostly conservative attorneys, bankers, business people, and government officials.
