Has anyone used Mr. Lorayne’s memory techniques to successfully remember a particular Memdeck?

If so, which Lorayne memory book was most helpful to you?

"Is there any point to which you would wish to draw my attention?"
"To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time."
"The dog did nothing in the night-time."
"That was the curious incident," remarked Sherlock Holmes.

I used his memory techniques to learn Mnemonica. As he says, all of his books, except those geared for students, explain how to memorize a deck of cards. The technique is the same in all of them. Applying the techniques, I had the stack down in about an hour, taking up to six seconds to recall the cards, now the associations have faded away and I have instant recall.

I had read "The Memory Book" before learning the Aronson stack so I was already familiar with the phonetic alphabet which helped speed the process. But Aronson does explain the phonetic alphabet and gives key words for remembering the cards and numbers 1-52 in "Bound to Please" (Mnemonica does not). It is a little more work to learn a memdeck using a phonetic system but I think it is worth it since it gives you something to fall back on, if needed, until the stack becomes second nature.

Just out of curiosity: how did that "6 Hour Memorized Deck" work out for ya?

Lorayne's method uses the peg system, I just use different pegs in memorizing the Aronson stack and Mnemonica

Richard Osterlind teaches Harry Lorayne's system in Mystique. He applies it to memorizing the Breakthrough Card System, but it can be applied to any stack. Wonderful book!
