Hi everyone,

One of my friend works as a social worker for helping the blind people.
Recently she ask me if I can perform the magic for them.
I think it's a challange for me and I'm willing to try.
What I think that I can do now is maybe some mind reading that they can just think and listen.
But can you give me some more advices?

Thank you very much.

My best friend (unknowingly) did Sponge Balls Over the Head for a blind lady in a restaurant setting. It's a great story now, but not recommended.

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley.

Before anything else, be very sensitive to their inability to see.

That being said, if you make it as if they're the ones accomplishing the effect, it always looks astounding imho...

Example, they're the ones who pick the correct card or say the word you wrote on a piece of paper.

It also focuses the Show on them and not you, which is a good thing imho...

When working with a group of blind people, be aware that there will often be several with 'some' vision, or visually impaired. Also be aware that they are also used to having things described to them. I've found that even totally blind people like sponge ball magic. When you tell them you're putting one ball in your hand and the other in theirs, they believe you!

Jon Allen sells a trick using Braille cards that you can contact him about.

Needle through solid brass block in matchbox is a great trick that they can actually feel and experience.

A fun trick that you can do is to make them the mind reading star by 'helping' them mind read by asking them questions while holding their hands and secretly give them clues by tapping their hand when you ask them the correct question. They quickly catch on and enjoy being the star.

Hope that helps give you some ideas.

Tossed out deck comes to mind - the wording would need work - I imagine you would want a blind person to run their hands over some of the deck to check the cards were different at the start, and your showmanship would have to be right up there at the end, but it could be sensational.

Some thoughts can be found here:

I don't see how this topic is not very magical. To the contrary: it gets to the heart of the matter.

Hello everyone,

Here is the update.
I just finished performing magic for the blind people 2 days ago.
Actually it's easier than I thought, but I got much more from them.
When you see their smile, you'll know what the real magic are.
I chose to perform plate thru arm and my friend perform some rubber band magic, some mentalism (kurotsuke) as well.
They are so involved in the show, a great memory.

Here is the video of that show.

Enjoy.
