There are soooo many great matrix effects.
I like Dean Dill's work, and really like shadow coins. If you do a matrix well, you will have your audience eating out of your hand! |

I have been thinking about this a lot, lately. After hanging with the likes of John Born, Chris Korn, Jason Dean, etc... at the MMJ in St. Louis, I came to this conclusion:
While there are so many variations on these classics, for me it comes down to this. What is going to blow away a layman spectator? I had my butt kicked by John. He floored me time and time again, but I'm a magician. I don't want to downplay his work, because I think it is important. It is crucial to expand your vocabulary, and understand the whole potential of an effect. This is what John offers. And he will destroy laymen, too. Back to my point. When I perform the basic classic Shadow Coins, for example, is the most magical thing a spectator has ever seen. Not because I am the one performing it, BTW It is easy to follow, direct and impossible looking. No confusion, just real magic. For me, it is more important to be able to perform this basic routine to perfection. It must look like no moves have been made. The timing must bring out the magic moments. Tension must be built and the releases must be climactic(word?). It must look real, and poetic. So many of the variations on matrix, are amazing and magical, but to a layman, I don't believe they are any more so than the classic versions. What if you really could wave your hands over an object and cause it to vanish and rematerialize? All the bells and whistles wouldn't necessarily make it better, would it? Eric Grossman

David Regal has a nice matrix routine in Close-up and Personal. I'm not much of a matrix fan, but this one is fun.

Also, anyone who seeks me out and buys the book/CD set MATRIX GOD'S WAY from me at the coinvention, I will give personal lessons on handlings as well as extras that are not in the book.

Teehee, if that's the case it IS worth buying a ticket to Vegas. And beware Dan W. You might be bigger but I'm part Asian and particularly vicious in martial arts when it comes to getting my free set ;-)
John I just had a set made out of eurocoins for Matrix Reborn for the pipedream you mention at the end (the minicoin change).

Uhhhh....yeah!!! One set available!!! The toughest magicians wins! Ringside tickets available through me for $20. Let's get it on!!!
Dan - the mini-change is totally the coolest!!! I think many people look over it, but huge rewards for those that don't! |

Yes, the idea appealed to me immediately. I don't use exactly minicoins though, but a very small 2 ct. eurocoin (has to do with the tagline I have in mind).

Dan - You are the first person I have heard of that is doing it! Awesome, man!!!
Also...I have included three new barehanded matrix assemblies (two of them are instant backfires for translocation) as a bonus in my upcoming (almost finished) card book "Odorokubeki." Will tell more about them later. Definitely worth checking out... |

Is the original that good? The sork always seemed so simple I never trusted it.
My problem with bottle caps is that they are so low brow as apparatus; cheap loking aparatus just seems---cheap (not elegant). Also, never liked the idea of takng away from the primary effect by bring in another to folow, but, Paul's thinking about this strikes me as having great validity. I'm hearing about Armando Lucero for months, and I'm really interested in his magic.
Where could I see one of his performances? I'm really hooked about his matrix.... Do any of you know certainly if he is going to release it? (It seems that there is a certain controvesy about it...) thanks. |

I heard a rumor this past weekend at the MAES convention that he would be releasing some of his work later on but not a lot of it. The stuff that he is releasing is not going to be his strongest stuff though, just stuff to have people even more interested in how he does what he does.
