Eric,
If you're refering to the dover editions of this book - Just buy all three - A very good value I believe these only come in Dover editions, now that I made that statement I still say - worth the money - You can but all three for a lot less than a single copy the books coming out monthly |

Eric,
Those are not the only slef-working books Fulves has written, and that is not even all of the one's he's written on cards. He also wrote My Best Self-Working card tricks. All four are worth the paltry 5.95 but if you would only buy one, I'd reccomend Self-Working card tricks. I got the most out of that one. |

Self-Working Card Tricks would be my choice. A classic.

eric,
Get all three (they're great) and then truck through them and again =) Get card college or diligently go through Royal Road To Card Magic... It's good to know some sleight-of-hand... Because it really opens up your horizons to harder, but ultimately more rewarding and magical effects. This is NOT to say that self-working tricks are not magical, learning sleights just gives you more options and a wider range of things to add to your repetoire (sp?). |

Does anyone know the name and which book where Fulves showed the effect of the two aces finding the spectators card in the deck. This effect utilizes the tossing of the deck into the other hand where the spectator's card is sandwiched inbetween the two aces. I think it was at the end of Self-working card tricks. It was one of the very first tricks that I learned and I still perform it to this day.
Can anyone also recommend some variations of this effect that they prefer? |

Robert,
The effect you mentioned above is Quick as a Wink, which is the last effect in Self-Working Card Tricks. I perform the trick with the same effect, but I do it a non-self working way and with my own patter. |

For those of you who like to play with numbers, Fulves has some great, non-standard stuff in Self Working Number Magic. One of my favorites: spectator picks a two digit number. He then multiplies it by itself four times (that is, he raises the number to the fifth power with a scientific calculator.) He now has a number in the MILLIONS, possibly BILLIONS, which he reveals to you. In an instant, you name his original two digit number. No sleight of hand etc., it's all math. I f you can memorize ten numbers you can do this.

Jack,
the same principle works for the 3rd power with a slight change. it was in one of martin gardners columns. I present it by first doing the cubic root problem then the 5th root (as it is more difficult) nir |

Quick as a wink, that's what it was. Thanks totalpackage56.
