Richard Webster's pendulum power is excellent. It contains a wealth of background, information on using and routines. I'm reading his book for the general public pendulum magic and it's again an resource for ideas. Banachek Psychophysiological Thought Reading has an excellent chapter devoted to pendulums. Scarne magic tricks has a page or two on basics. Bob's book has some excellent background info on pendulums and an excellent idea on an alternative style of pendulum. Haven't tried any of the routines from Bob's though as their bringing in extra magic props, which I don't have and not quite suitable for me. There is a good George Anderson book on the topic. Freddie Valentine has a nice pendulum book for bizarre magic, it has a small contribution from myself on making pendulums. Pablo Amira has an ebook out recently, which has had very positive reviews. It's on my to buy list. There is another ebook on the subject coming out soon on magicpendulums.com which looks like it should be excellent with the names listed. Docc Hilford has several excellent routines one on the vault DVD and I think the other is monster mentalism volume 1 or through one of the ebooks on his site.

Welcome
If you really start to enjoy pendulum work and take Joshua's advice above, then sometime in the future you may want to check out Neil Scryer's take on it. His work is fantastic and in some cases I would say priceless. I would also look into Max Maven's e-book as well. Darren

Thanks Joshua J. I have Banachek´s book and the effects aren´t very good in my opinion. Pablo Amira ebook looks very interesting as well as Webster's book.

Thanks for your words MrWoodrow. Effects for me are inspiration and the effects in that book just don´t inspire me .

It's the audience who needs to be inspired, and Banachek is one of the best in that department.

There is a huge difference between reading to yourself and performing for others.
Once you've been performing for a while, you will go back to a lot of stuff you've already read and discounted and realise its value. It can work the other way around too: Effects which look good on paper don't always work that well in performance. I have found a number of manuscripts around are purely theoretical and can't possibly describe what the writer has ever actually performed. Quote:

This is true.
I think the longer you have been performing, the more you appreciate the type of information that you find in Banachek's work. Matt

If you feel that his work is not for you at this moment in time - that's fine...i remember putting 13 steps back on my shelf after trying to read it the first time...and I left it there for a year while I learned other things...it made far more sense after that time away...
so, no big deal...no alarms will go off in banachek's house alerting him to the fact that you didn't like the effects... things will turn out the way they should for you sooner or later...

To our friend, who seems interested in the "dark" areas of mentalism, and if I understand needs also building confidence as a performer, I would suggest two texts by Paul Voodini. Paul, whose routines I believe to be a very good training (inherent value apart), links in a very original and effective way good stagework, simple readings and a basic use of the pendulum.
The works which I would suggest are: - "The Chimney Sweep's Victorian Oracle (pendulum + reading); and - "Hypno-Mental Self-Working Card Tricks" (the "self-working" adjective hides somehow the necessity for a good showmanship -which seems to me the most valuable part of this excellent little book). You can find both (in the form of e-books) at the website: http://www.readerofminds.co.uk/index.
