Not sure why but there has been little mention of Fate or Freewill here. Paul Prater is a creative guy and this is his newest release. This is one of those fun little packet effects with a real bizarre twist. A creative reader could use this as an opener for new clients. Perfect walk around effect! I was selling a bunch of books at HalfPrice Books today and took this with me. Sometimes the wait can approach an hour so I headed over to the metaphysical section with FoF. Sometimes I wish I lacked ethics, a slew lonely ladies enjoyed a few minutes of attention, and FoF is a killer way to approach someone cold.

RCP,

I concur. This is quite the little gem. Very nice use of a classic effect. I love it!

Mine is paid for and on its way...
Thank you to my friends here on The Café! Otherwise, I would have never have known about this new release. We have to kick Paul's butt about promoting himself a little more. Dude's got skill.

Note to RCP, thank you for your concern, I did not however 'miss' or over look the subject matter. It was only 13 positions below this one. It had an excellent vid clip as well. Paul Prater has several marvelous effects and props including the haunted key and box.

Paul promoteshimself in his own way at his own pace. HE offers rather than shoves it down ones throat. I find that refreshing.

OBTW, I also did not miss the posting concerning the ODDITORIUM. Pauls two fine books are also available at Leaping lizards Magic.

I appreciate RCP making this post. The post of the video did get moved out of this forum and frankly, some people did miss this. Sometimes that happens when posts get moved around.

KOTAH, Jorey, Roth, Greg, I appreciate all of your comments. I have said it before and I'll say it again, the best part of this is the friendships that are forged both online and in person. I have exchanged emails with each of you. I have had the pleasure of meeting RCP in person and I hope to do the same with each of you!

Joshua, I am even toying with the idea of a trip to the UK at some point.

I'm sure you'd get a warm welcome if you came. Be good to see you here for something like doomsday or a tabula mentis.

Paul Prater is, without a doubt, one of the finest suppliers of props anywhere. Creative, honest and a joy to deal with.

In short -- Paul rocks!

I have Fate or Freewill waiting for me in the magic room. Deliberately holding off from opening it until this weekend when I have some time...
Can't wait!
Paul is as good as they come.

Well, I couldn't wait for the weekend as I originally planned, and opened my Fate or Freewill last night. All I can say is that Paul is so on his game with this effect. Mr. Garland's review is exactly right, and echos my feelings.

Paul has a creative background, and it shows with the care he's put into this effect. From the wax seal on the envelope to the cards themselves...it's all so well-thought out and executed.

So, let's look at what you get. First, a well-designed, well-written booklet (yes...booklet...not an inexpensively-produced DVD) of instructions. This publication immediately puts you in the mood with historical content, moody graphics, suggested story lines, and detailed instructions. You get the right tools, but Paul isn't presumptuous in pushing his own presentation. He openly invites your input into the entire experience. Ironically, my favorite presentation...and the one I'll be using...is the alternative handling. It utilizes the well-designed envelope, and is better suited for a neophyte like myself, who isn't practiced on the subtitles of suggestion.

Second, you get the physical stuff. Let's start with the wax seal on the envelope that contains the cards. Yes...wax seal. Okay. I'm done. I think the attention to detail has been established.

Third, the envelope. I love the design Paul has used on this effect. It's crude enough to have historical merit, yet modern enough to be easily read by contemporary audiences. He was so smart in including enough information on this piece to allow for some very creative alternative forcing methods (need to be vague here).

Fourth, the coin. It's thin, and light, but totally believable. It's supposed to be a valuable metal, so one would expect it to be created sparingly, and stamped thin. I love it. The design is detailed and archaic.

Fifth, the cards. The texture is perfect and the designs are right where you want them to be...old enough to be mysterious, but modern enough to be relevant. They could be 10 years old and weather-worn, or centuries old and stored in a museum. In other words...just right.

Sixth, the routines. I like Paul's initial instructions and story line, but for my performance style, I preferred the alternate handling which placed the initial force on a really effective use of the envelope. Paul was so smart in designing an envelope that not only looked great, but included all of the elements that tie this effect together. In other words, the envelope is your cheat sheet. You can use it to force, or as a guide for your patter...perfect.

In closing...buy this. It's that simple. Paul has ramped it up on this effect, and all of the components are serving the greater good...or "bad"...depending how you present it.
