I realize there are many posts on which skills you should refine first, especially for cards and coins. But, my question is about which skills actually facilitate the development of other skills.
For example, does improving your muscle pass enhance your classic palm? Does improving your strike double lift improve your ability to execute an Elmsley count. Can you think of any skills or practices that improve a range of other skills and practices |

For me, the DL gave me a 'touch' for individual cards.
Dbl UC gave me proficiently with a packet of cards (as well as many other cuts.) A false Sh gave me experience with hand rhythm and applying pressure. Hope this helps! |

The Pinky Count aids the Top Shot. Both very good moves to master.

For me the trouble has always been an overhand shuffle without dropping cards. Once I gave it the practice time it required, most of my other card handling seemed to improve as well. I don't know why, never gave it much thought until your question.

That's really interesting. I wonder if the overhand shuffle, when optimized, improves our tacit sense of how much pressure to exert for a variety of movements. Although the shuffle can seem so simple, we have to lift the cards and press the thumb, and sometimes the fingers, onto the cards with precisely the right pressure. We have to repeat these two actions many times as well--and this repetition might represent a form of practice as well.
