Back in the mid 70's I had the opportunity to see Albert Goshman work and lecture several times. He among others led me to see the possibilities in coin work. Others included Gertner and Jennings. The foreward in the Goshman books talks about the magic being beyond the props and sleights.
What fits my work may not be your cup of tea. Not everyone uses harmonica's, puppets, watch winders, kazoo's and other toys with their coin work. Comics' would consider me a prop comic. Not everyone is working on a routine that involves whip cream. (I am guessing that there are a few of you out there) In performance and in doing workshops I am more known for my puppets (can you pass the duct tape and those tiny sunglasses) but I still love bringing out a coin or 6 and sharing a routine or teaching about putting more than sleights or technique into a puppet and yes a coin routine. Now and zen I get it. Harris staying green so I can grow laughologist and nearly normal reader and righter

Very nice Harris. Thank you for sharing that insight! Nothing is perfect and no matter how much one knows, there is always more to learn...

Yes a full cup is hard to fill.
Especially if you are doing coins to coffee cup. I love coffee, I love tea, I love the java jive and...... Yes I do add old or made up songs in the middle of my coin routines. My brain takes me interesting places. I have learned to filter what I say both in shows and online. Over the weekend I attended a training conference in Shawnee, Kansas. I ran into (ouch) a couple of performers I knew from my late 70's to 80's comedy days. Back then my material was much different than today. I was trying to be either Henning or Anderson. I do a much better Harris.

I like the way you think. I too, from time to time, add goofy little lines like that into my story routines, and I use Shel Silverstein a lot. He was one of my favorite poets growing up, and still is. Much of his work is quite useable in magic routines, in as far as words are concerned.

Mr. Silverstein's work ran from A - Z. From his Different Dances to Sarah Sylvia Cynthia Stout to writing for Dr. Hook, his work was delightful and sometimes delightfully strange.

Thanks Sean,
I stand on the shoulders of those that have come before. I am influenced from folks in the silent world (both films and world of mime), puppets (from vents to Wayland Flowers...to Mummanshontz, prop comedians and of course wonderful magicians.(in manuscripts, books, dvd's, and those I was blessed to meet in person) Be safe, well and creative. Harris an MC at a comedy club quiped after my set...harris finds this job much cheaper than psychotherapy...
